BT has admitted it sent the personal details of more than 500 customers as an unsecured document to legal firm ACS:Law, following a court order.
The news could potentially put BT in breach of the Data Protection Act, which requires firms to keep customers data secure at all times.
They will only be fined a maximum of £500,000. A really pathetic fine when credit cards were also leaked.
I believe a maximum of 13000 sky accounts (5000 in 1st leak and 8000 in second) and 400-500 pulsenet customers had their information leaked, as well as CV's (I found one)

@concernedPNcustomer, the answer to those questions are in the discussion thread on our forum: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,85908.0.html
The basics of the NPO and the process involved are detailed in the FAQ I referred to previously.“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Plusnet. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -

Thanks for the response, a summary would have helped though as the trhead (which I'm not on if your wondering) is 86 pages at the moment.
It's good to see that Plusnet will no longer cooperate with these people.0 -
There's a basic summary here which should help: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,89289.msg744759.html“Official Company Representative

For anyone in Plusnet or BSKYB, who has been a victim of the ACS data breach, please refer to :
http://www.privacyinternational.org/article.shtml?cmd%5B347%5D=x-347-566663
As you will see, privacy international will be taking legal action agains ACS; so if you have been a victim of this data breach; get in touch with them as soon as possible by emailing alex@privacy.org. I am guessing that they will be taking a class action against ACS; so, with luck, people should get some money back from ACS. I'm sure privacy international will advise if you ask them in your em.
Also please refer to http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1736800/isps-admit-taking-money-handing-subscribers, where SKY admits taking money to provide data to ACS. I'm presuming a similar arrangement was made with Plusnet. Shame on SKY and BT in putting profiteering before the needs of their customers.
For info, the Information Commissionaire is also investigating Plusnet sending unencrypted data to ACS and they are also being investigated as being in contempt of court. I'm sure that Plusnet will receive a heavy fine for both.
My advise to all BT Plusnet and SKY users is to move across to Talk Talk or Virginmedia, who have not supplied any data to ACS.
Lets hope ACS goes under as a result of this.0 -
You can see the emails here

And. Not being funny as they could have fought the court order, but if I was a company forced to supply data, I myself would try to recoup the costs from the 3rd party. My advise to all BT Plusnet and SKY users is to move across to Talk Talk or Virginmedia, who have not supplied any data to ACS.
My advise would be not to use torrents, especially to download !!!!!!. Theres a lot of legal ways to download stuff that does not involve uploading. And if you are innocent, theres legal precedence regarding this, but I would just be boring you with that..0 -
Forgive me if I am being dense, but - why..?
The same court oder to supply data to ACS applied to V/media and Talk Talk as it did with SKY/BT. Both companies refused to supply the data to ACS due to their questionable practises.
Please also remember that a number of the BT and SKY users would/are totally innocent (Please refer to my next posting).
If anyone wishes to stay with SKY or BT, good luck to them !:)0
