As shellsuit said, the question on our proposed ceremony from the registrar says "Will you..." so the answer is "I will".

H2B is pretty grumpy because he wants the registrar to ask "Do you..." and I wasn't sure if that's possible. From these responses I'm guessing it wont hurt to ask the registrar if they can change it :)

I would certainly ask the registrar if it can be changed. There's no real difference in the meaning - it's just a matter of grammar, as shellsuit has pointed out.

If the question starts 'Will you...?', then the answer is 'I will' (assuming you agree ;))

If the question starts 'Do you...?' then the answer is 'I do'.

If it makes H2B feel any better (doubtful, I know, if he has his heart set on 'I do') then bear in mind that in some countries/languages the answer is a plain 'Yes'. :)

Bottom line - if you don't ask, you definitely won't get. It's worth a try - and good luck!

    This post got me thinking!

I went and had a look at all three of the CofE services you can have, including the 1600's version and they all have "i will". Not an I do in sight. I was hoping to find that the 1600's version with all its olde englishe would be I do.

This certainly isn't the only wedding related matter I have posted about. I saw that you were asking for non edible favours earlier... Is that more important than the words you say at your ceremony?
