Looking at our wedding ceremony choices... H2B is getting a bit cross that we are supposed to say "I will" not "I do"... Can we change it?? What are you saying?

Is the question "Will you XXX take YYY....?"
I hadn't thought about there being an alternative to "I do"!0 -
I've watched many a wedding programme in the last 18 months, and I've found that all the USA programmes ask the question "Do you take..." so the bride and groom reply, "I do", whereas over here, the question asked is, "Will you take...", so our reply is "I will".
I'm not sure if it can be changed, but I'd ask wherever you are getting married.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I think the English version is I will.
We have changed our vows to I do as we're getting married in Australia and can say pretty much anythingGreen and White Barmy Army!0 -
If you ask the registrar they may phrase it do you take... but it depends on the person. I'm pretty sure it has someone to do with the tense applied to the question. (You're not actually taking them at that second but you will in a minute!)Bump due 22nd September0

Don't forget, you have to say the "I, Josephine Bloggs, take you, John Smith, to be my lawfully wedded husband, to have & to hold" etc
My DH insists that we said "honour & obey" but I know we didn't!0 -
Here its "I will", our vicar was most specific about that, and hubby still said I do! Lol!0

As shellsuit said, the question on our proposed ceremony from the registrar says "Will you..." so the answer is "I will".
H2B is pretty grumpy because he wants the registrar to ask "Do you..." and I wasn't sure if that's possible. From these responses I'm guessing it wont hurt to ask the registrar if they can change itI love surprises!0
