Quote for plumbing fair?

Options
I've had a quote for re doing my whole bathroom and have a breakdown. For replacing the bath and toilet ( in exactly the same place just swapping the old for new) I've been quoted £500. That seems really expensive especially compared to the rest of the work.

What should I be paying for this?

Thanks

Cherry picking the quote is counterproductive. He's been good enough to give you a breakdown. If you are concerned post the whole lot up with a total - its that which is important.

if the £500 is just for labour then you're right , it is steep , can't be more than half a days work if it's a straight swap

How much would you like to pay?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • I didn't ask for a breadown- he just gave it! and i don't think thats 'good of him' its just letting me know how he came to his figure. As for what I'd like to pay, i don't know, but I do know that i wouldn't really want to pay more than £200 a day for someones wages and as he said the whole bathroom would take 3 days I don't think that work would take more than a day at the very most so how can it be £500???

ok..what are you paying for? are you just paying labour or is the £500 for the new bath/toilet/materials etc? Bear in mind,he isnt putting the money in his pocket as he also has expenses.

  • no the £500 is just for labour- i am supplying bath, toilet and materials. The fact that you have asked that proves it must be very high for just labour?

So what is the work that is going to enable a "whole bathroom" to be done in three days? Come on spit it out. Of you want advice on your costing then you have to tell us what its all about otherwise we are just going round in circles cherry picking at something noone but you can see. Thats called guesswork and a waste of everybodies time including yours.

  • The bathroom is very small which is why it isn't going to take long according to him. Im having the tiles around the bath and half walls taken off and the walls plastered (only a very small area about 4msq in total ) then about 2sqm of tiles put up and a mirror put up (not sure if im having that still but that is what the quote is for). The tiling has been quoted at £300 and the plastering at £150... infact the more I look at it the whole thing looks very expensive to me. Its tiny the bathroom!

Actually the size of the bathroom is frequently imaterial - same tasks have to be done and in a small space the job can easily take longer than in a large space - 'cos you've got no room to move. If they are plastering to bare brick or block (bonding then finish) don't even think about tiling until its dried out properly which will be some weeks. If its just a skim then you'll be OK after 24/48 hours.

In the context of the whole thing yes £ 500 to do a bath/bog swap is too much. £300 for 2m2 of tiling is having a laugh although the plastering is probably not that far off the mark.

Now I've not seen it but iro £650 - £700 would seem reasonable for the whole job at an educated guess. That assumes you are providing bath, taps, loo, tiles and mirror and he provides all other required materials. If its that small it isn't a two man job so don't get suckered into paying for someone lazing around all day because he can't get in the space to do any work due to the other guy being in there. 3 days elapsed might just be a tad optimistic too.

  • Maybe the best thing to do is obtain comparative quotes??
