I wash at 40 with Fairy, but once a week do a boil wash for towels with Persil, if i don`t the machine starts smelling.

My machine doesn't even have a 30 degree setting, which is a bit annoying. I use 40 for most things, occasionally a cold wash (exact temperature obviously subject to seasonal variations) for delicates or things that have been in storage and aren't actually dirty but need freshened up. Jumble sale purchases usually go in a cold wash as soon as I get them home.
I use 60 for things like bedclothes, socks, pants and sometimes stuff that didn't quite come out clean in an ordinary wash.0 -
I wash my bedding at 60 and towels on boil, the rest gets washed at 30 and it's very rarely that I have to re-wash something at 40 because it didn't get clean (actually, can't remember the last time I washed 'normal' clothes at 40), but then, I don't have little grubby kids anymore:jHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

I use Tesco washing powder for colours and usually do a 40 degree wash for most clothing. I tried 30 degrees but the powder didn't dissolve very well and left washing with white specks on it. Any suggestions for a cheapy washing liquid that I can use. Do Tesco do a liquid detergent?“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. I use the lidls capsules at just one capsule per load instead of two and they seem to be realy good and dont take up much storage space. janeMember 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

strangley enough I have never tried this but think I should. Dont know what the problem is with my fairly new washer but when i put powder in the drawer a lot of it stays there in a big soggy lump. think I will try putting it in the drum instead.0 -

Mind you it's full of all sorts of other chemicals too that I suppose will work at various temperatures.Regards,

The engineer who came to mend the thermostat which had gone in my machine told me that if you wash at under 40 you should use liquid stuff, and if at over 40 powder - I think because it doesn't dissolve properly at under 40. I have stuck to this with v good results. I used to have white marks on dark clothes, and have dramatically rduced amount of powder used with no ill effects. But have just bought a special offer packet of Ariel (I think) for washes at 30, which doens't fit the engineer's theory. I have yet to test it - has anyone else tried it yet ?0

I use a variety of temps to wash with. I always use a non bio liquid as we have sensitive skin and find this best.
Always wash BF's work shirts at 60 these days - I am finding that 40 is just not enough to get totally rid of that 'underarm smell'.
everything else, apart from his rugby kit gets washed at 40. Although i have a quick 30 min wash prog which is 30 and i use that occasionally as its find on my clothes, but not BF's for some reason!!!r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
I use non bio liquid, supermarket own and wash everything at 40. 30 didn't seem to work as well.0
