I am not sure whether I should simply close the account or leave a minimal balance.

So the questions is to close or to leave nominal balance?

I have left £4 in mine.

I noticed the faster payments were a bit slow yesterday perhaps they are a bit busy with the mass exodus.

You would think that someone at Natwest would have noticed a lot of cash being moved from esaver accounts and consider whether they have been sensible in killing off the bonus.

I shall leave an amount in mine for quick cash transfers into my Natwest current account, I get zero on the current account so the esaver's 1% is better than that but the bulk of the cash is bound for N/Rock. :)

I know we all love knocking bankers these days, but they're not stupid.

They know when a bonus ends/is withdrawn, they will lose a % of their savers. They make calculated decisions based on the savings they make (paying lower interest) against the reserves they lose (closures).

    It's a business decision.

    Of course they 'notice'.

I called Natwest today asking about this account as I had not received any letters from them and my bonus was to end on 14 Feb. She said she had received numerous similar calls and I was told the bonus would be extended for a year. Given this seems to be opposite to what others on this forum have been told, I asked them to put it in writing - so we shall see...

I can only assume that you were due to have yours extended anyway and you failed to receive a letter or you rang a very special number, I tried very hard to convince them to extend my bonus, I spoke to three departments and the answer was a resounding NO! :)
  • Just opened my Northern Rock e saver and will start moving money across starting tonight, did a quick transfer with £1 and its gone across. Much easier than the 9 weeks it took to open my nat west e saver. Shall leave £1 in just in case they come to their senses.
  • I realise I've left it a bit late now :( however would appreciate any advise on where to transfer my savings to please? Ideally an online instant access account.

    Many thanks

    It's not too late.
Have you considered the Virgin/Nrock account?

  • Many thanks nilrem for the quick reply, that looks ideal, If I apply tomorrow, how long do you think it will take to open the account? (assuming that is, I meet all the correct criteria)
