New car frustration

Ok my partner collected her car, and had a long conversation with the service manager, he confirmed this is a known problem, but no fault can be found, so no fix can be issued.
You have been warned, dont buy a crdi engine.0 -
I guess you could call it a crudi engine then?
Surely if it's confirmed faulty and they are not prepared to repair it you should be asking for a full refund as per the sale of goods act?
Then go and buy something European or Japanese0 -
I would like to point out I do like the car, just not the problem it has.
Out of the 4 cars tested including mine, 3 had the problem, they have put it down to a bad batch of glow plugs, and it would seem the main problem is resolved, excessive white smoke, but there is still to much smoke at startup, service manager says its within spec, I asked what is that spec, but he could not answer & said he happy with car as you should expect some smoke at startup, I disagree, hyundai technical now involved, also will have to take car to a 3rd party to see if the amount of smoke it does produce is acceptiable, if they agree with me car will be rejected.0 -
In the OP, what does the 'MY' refer to as in 'Hyundai i30 2010 MY' ? I've seen it written with other cars and it's always made me wonder!0

As above, MY is Model Year. Most manufactures make spec changes each year and the new models are normally introduced around September. This is why you'll see references like MY10, 2010MY or 10MY as this has no reflection to the actual registration date.0 -
sootytorques,
Sorry to hear you have the smoking & rough running problem with your i30. As you know this is we well documented on the internet forums and both Kia and Hyundai know about it but as yet have not come up with a fix for it. I've just seen you're on the Kia Ceed forum too.
I have two new Kia's - a Ceed 3 Estate and a Soul 2. Both have the U2 1.6 CRDi engine (as does the i30) that has is having these issues with a small number of customers. Luckily I'm not one of them yet. Our Soul has done 25k miles and the Ceed has done 7k miles. Both have been faultless so far and are excellent cars.
Hang in there. I'm sure Hyundai/Kia will get this resolved soon.0 -
Ok car back to dealer today with the same problem, never went away really, they got one more chance, or car gets rejected.0
-
Rejected for what?
If there is no fault you have no grounds for rejection. A bit of smoke as long as it isnt' dangerous or damaged is not going to give you just reason to reject the car. Furthermore you have driven it for over a month now with this problem clear. Reaching the upper end of the time frame therefore in my view to reject it as the problem hasn't just occurred. By retaining the car and accepting what they told you they will argue you accepted their remedy.0 -
@ Mr Redundant, They cannot find a fault at the moment, have a look at youtube type in Smoking Hyundai i30 (its the blue car), or go to dervhead & tdisport & search for new car frustration & tell me there are no grounds for rejection I have not driven the car for over a month with problem clear, if dealer cannot find a problem, car will go to independent derv expert if they can find a problem, great, get it fixed, if they cannot, they have seen video & will put pen to paper & confirm no modern common rail diesel should produce that much smoke, car is not fit for purpose.0
