Has anyone managed to get any deals for existing customers - they were offering to waive the £10 fee for 6 months a while back

i called up to cancel and they offered me half price tv package for six month without having to sign up for another period of month so after trhe six months i can just try and get another deal of cancel again. Its saving me about £25 a month
  • We are about to go into battle with Sky, who we have been with for some years. Last March, they rang us and advised that Sky were offering a free upgrade of Sky+ box to a Sky HD+ box because they were discontinuing SKy+ boxes. They advised it was absolutely free and there wasn't even an instal fee. We were told that we could experience HD channels for 12 months for free and then as long as we cancelled HD channel access in month 11, no charges would ever occur.

Naturally we agreed and the new box came. About 10 days later we had a letter thanking us for upgrading and advising of the new charge (an extra £10). I rang and was assured it was a standard letter but that our monthly £10 was waived for 12 mths and the 11-mth cancellation was again confirmed.

We have recently had lots of problems with the box and have decided to switch to Virgin for a full tv/phone/BB package as it appears hugely cheaper than our current BT for phone and BB/Sky for tv package.

I was advised by Sky that infact by accepting the totally free HD+ box, I had committed myself to a brand new 12-mth contract! I said no way, it was offered no strings attached on the basis that the Sky+ box was being discontinued and software updates were not going to be continued in the future. Argued with a stroppy Sky rep who kept calling me Clare (why I don't know). She said we'll repair your current box becaue it's still under 12-mth warranty (ie you will be acknowledging the new contract by accepting the repair). I countered that by saying the box was laegally covered by a 6 yr warranty covering inherent faults and that included software faults because that was also provided in a contract between Sky and me.

Having it repaired tomorrow after which I will be writing to their legal department to advise I do not recognise a contract formation last March and the onus is on them to prove it (I did not sign or verbally agree to - nor was I even made aware of- a new contract).

Any advise or similar battle stories would be greatly appreciated. I have no problem with taking them on however it may help us all if we band together our common knowledge.
    Integrity is a dying art!:p
