The actual wording for this policy from the Asda Website is:

What happens if I am overcharged?
If you have been overcharged or undercharged in any of our stores we will gladly refund the difference (if you have been overcharged) and give you a £2 Gift voucher for each product you have been mischarged for.

I've used this policy before, but there's one thing I'm still not clear on. On the Tesco Misprices Discussion thread, someone said that you get a £2.00 voucher for each product that you are overcharged on. The suggestion was that if you bought 10 packets of crisps and you were charged a penny too much for each of them, you'd be entitled to 10 x £2.00 vouchers (plus of course the 10p overcharge). I personally think that Customer Services would argue that in this case you've only been overcharged on one product, so would only be entitled to a single £2.00 voucher plus the 10p overcharge. Does anyone have a specific personal experience to give a definitive answer on the correct interpretation?

Incidentally, I know this has been posted elsewhere, but since it's relevant:

200% ASDA Brand and Fresh Produce Guarantee
We are so confident in the quality of ASDA brand food and our Fruit & Veg that if you're not delighted with your purchase, we'll give you a refund AND replace it!

    Hi there,

This is a true policy, however I was overcharged five times on items that had been reduced and never had a mention when I was getting a refund at cs desk, so I complained and had an apologetic email from a lady called Arlene Murphy, at this point I didn't know about the £2 so when I looked at the Asda site and found this I was a bit annoyed and emailed Arlene Murphy to complain, two phonecalls (to yorkshire), numerous emails I've had no reply  and feel really angry. I think I'm entitled to at least £10 back in a giftcard, it was five separate items. I'm going to email her again and threaten with trading standards or equivalent, what do you mser's think is best to say?

I find at my local store which is Walton in Liverpool you have to ask, in one in Wakefield (i think) when I was visiting my sister they tried to fob me off saying it was only if you left the store and came back, saying it was like a petrol/travel refund (which if it is, why do you get a £2.00 giftcard, I'd rather have the cash) so I ended arguing the toss with the manager. It might be worthwhile printing the section off the website to have as proof or refer cashier to head office.

Any advice is welcome, I don't know whether trading standards is the right place to mention in my email to Arlene Murphy.

    Thanks everyone

I think if you are polite and quote their policy from the website you will have a better chance than going in all guns blazing. I have heard that the policy doesn't apply to items that are reduced to clear, but the website doesnt state that.

when ringing asda cs I always ask to speak to a manager/supervisor who is not available immidately but gives me a ring back .when buying more than one item ,even two of the same product I always get £2 for each misprice be that a underprice or overprice. I moan that much about asda staff not knowing their own policy I get extra on the gift card for my inconvience.the chap I ask for is called Alan, I think his surname is Primm customer service manager .Some of the regular staff aren't even aware of the policy, not their fault asda are trying to discourage this policy.

I have just visited Asda Bodmin and bought the shower gels - I was overcharged too, but all I got was a refund for the difference. I have just sent an email to their customer services online I'm looking forward to hearing from them!

About two months ago I was oversharged 10p on a pack of Apples...

Went to CS who tried telling me the Apples were in the wrong place so correctly priced - proved her wrong!

She refunded me the 10p and I asked about the £2 gift card, she aqdvised me that Asda had stopped giving the Gift Card ages ago!

I emailed customer services, who apologised, confirmed the mis-price policy and said they were going to send me a £2 gift card.

A week later a £3 Gift Card turned up - email to CS worked a treat.
  • Hi the last couple of times I have been over priced at Asda the CS assistant tried to just give me the difference, until I prompted them 'has the £2 gift card been discontinued?' knowing full well it hasn't.
This is usually enough for them to sigh and reach for a gift card. Anybody would think it was their own £2 they were giving you!!

When I was overcharged by 20p in Asda last week, customer services sent someone to check they had not returned in about 5 minutes, she offered me a smiley voucher for £1 that I could use on my next shop to save me having to wait any longer, I refused pointing out that if I was correct about the overcharge I would get a £2 gift card and my 20p back. She looked and said nothing, sure enough I got my gift card and 20p.

    Well done.

I NEVER knew about the £2 gift card, until I read MSE.
Twice now I have gone to the cs desk after being overcharged. I got a refund of the sum overcharged, but when I then asked about the £2 card they denied all knowledge and said it didn't apply in this case.
I obviously need to tackle Asda now that I have finally cracked Tesco with the R&R.
If I get a straight denial again, I will contact HO - thanks all for the advice. ;)
