AOL Moving house

Hi, I am currently paying AOL £17.99 per month for their cheapest broadband, and am moving house.

Whats the easiest way to do this, and get it at the £14.99 per month they are advertising for new customers?

Does it take long to switch over?

Thanks, Stevey

ask AOL to see what their house moving proceedure entails - after all, you may need to start a new 12 month contract, since your new house will need broadband activated on it

Not to sure about AOL but when i moved house, i was with Orange who wanted to charge me £25 to move which they waived when i threatened to cancel the service.Orange/Wanadoo did not make you enter into a new contract either although this could have changed(moved feb 2006)........Neil
  • Aol don't make you enter a new 12 mth contract but it does take 10 working days to activate broadband and 20 working days if you're keeping your existing phone number (?!). If you have date for moving into your new property its probably worth getting onto Aol as soon as possible to ensure you're not without BB too long at your new address. You still have to pay even when BB isn't set up at your new address!
  • but it does take 10 working days to activate broadband

Ha, that's a good one. We are a military family so we move quite often. It states 10 working days but the reality is often 1 month+. If this does happen, just put a call through to AOL and ask to go onto dial up (they will reduce price temporarily) while you are awaiting for your BB. At least you won't be without Internet access.

Be warned - I've just done this. There is absolutely no point whatsoever in getting onto AOL early because the 10 or 20 days start from the day you move in. We had a moving date of 21st September, I phoned AOL as soon as we knew which was 31st August. OK so that was only 16 working days (we were keeping our number).

Moved in and because it was to hand (packed in "hand luggage" for safety)set up the wireless router and noted that all the lights were on. Didn't use it for a couple of days by which time the ADSL light was off. Contacted AOL and was cheerfully told by their rep that in fact it doesn't matter how much notice you give, the 20 days starts from when you move in so you are without broadband for 20 working days and no refund is available!

I'm therefore still broadbandless apart from at work!

hi,id 2nd the fact that the 20 days starts from when you move in.
also worth phoning them with your details rather than on line as they said they had no record of move on line

on the price thing, ive just gone onto live help and said i was paying 17.99 and adverts say 14.99 with router

i got it down to 9.99 without router!!!!

    worth haggling for

  • I was without BB for about 3 weeks. Worth trying before the 20 days is up as mine was connected earlier than that. I'm paying 17.99, complained about the house move fiasco but they still wont give me BB for 9.99 with a free router, might have to try again later.
