Flight Only

Hi,

I tried to book this earlier online and for some reason could not get past the costing stage,so i rang the agents and was quoted £123 more! She told me the cost of baggage was not included on the internet!!I told her that this was ridiculous and should be made clear on their website,as if i had booked it i would have been facing hold baggage costs at the airport!!

Is this the case with all agents online? My friends who are travelling with us have rang and told me to have a look at Holiday Discount Centre, the flight price is really good but not sure if the same applies here, any one booked with this company?

Thanks in advance

  • I have just checked on their website and it states that the confirmation email will confirm what baggage allowance is included.
The thing is how on earth are we supposed to know what we are going to be charged, why not just add any extras at the costing stage?

  • Low cost airlines rarely include the cost of baggage or other optional extras within the "headline" price. After all, not everybody travels with hold baggage.

If you would have booked online, any additional charges would have been detailed before you made payment.

  • The additional charges,in this case for baggage, were not detailed at any stage.

This actually happened a few years back when we booked a flight only,at no stage were we advised that we needed to add checked in luggage.I later found out that this certain company was actually fined for not making this clearer on their website.

Could we have details of the airline, route & dates please.

Most airline websites will tell you the allowances somewhere if you look fore them
  • Hi alanrowell

The flight is from Manchester to Larnaca on 5th - 19 July for 3 adults.

I have looked on the HDC website and i cannot find out what the charges will be.I don't see why they should allow you to book it and then tell you to pay extra when it's confirmed, all a big con job these days,i worked in travel for a few years and don't remember having to ask customers to pay extra because they want to take luggage with them!!
Whatever happened to the days when you could just book a flight and automatically get 20kgs of luggage allowance.

    Hi Littleminx

I work for the Holiday Discount Centre

Its becoming impossible to add all the baggage charges on to the website now

All airlines when booking flight only charge for baggage, it depends on the carrier to what they charge for baggage. Also how the system picks the flights up.

You are able to call us at any point in the booking process to clarify what or what isnt included

I would always advise that if you looking at flight only unless it states that bags are included take it that are not

The charter airlines are charging different prices depending on the destination too so its very confusing

Who is the flight with it does make a difference to when they show their charges and how much they are.
I'm afraid gone are the days when everything was "free" ie meals, luggage, transfers etc, i blame it on the people who used to moan about these items and paying for things they didnt want so now us that do want them have to pay to add them on, it was much easier when everything was included. It wouldnt be quite so bad if the airlines had the same weights but they dont ie Bmi 18kg hold luggage, 10kg hand, jet2 22kg hold luggage, thomas cook could be 15kg or 20kg or even 25kg its a minefield.
  • Hiya Del

I think the airlines are totally ripping us all off with all these extras that were once included!Nothing is ever straight forward any more is it?

My point though is why can't the agents online tell us what exactly we will be charged extra for?I was actually, stupidly maybe, going to book and i am so glad that i could not get to the final stage of the booking, otherwise i would have been landed with a bill for these extras.

    Hi stephb34

    The flight is with Monarch

People were never paying for these things in the first place, when you booked a flight the price you got was the price you paid and included all these so called extras.
We are all just lining some fat cats pockets.

Ah well i guess there's no point me ranting on,can't do anything about it,need to get these flights booked extras or not, otherwise my friends will go mad if the price increases lol

Many thanks for all your replies, really appreciate it.

So the Monarch flight? Why book it through an agent at all; it is cheaper direct from Monarch.

    Monarch price: £159
    HDC price: £186

Both prices including taxes but excluding bags.

Surely the best option is to use a screen scraper to find which low-cost carriers operate that route and then check direct with them to see if the price is better.

The difference in the pricing will pretty much cover the cost of a bag each.
