You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.

Quite a good move with the recent water shortage it might make people think about the water they are wasting.0

All pretty inevitable I think. To be honest when you actually look at the water shortage that is going on that is more hyped and yet less serious than levels in 76....It smacks of water companies trying to squeeze some more cash out...Wont be too long before water meters are throughout the country.0

I thought a high proportion of the leakage in the Thames Water area was from the company's pipes rather than the consumers' though?0

I think the whole water meter concept is disgusting
At the moment you pay one flat rate for your water. Once a meter is installed it will be no different to the current gas/electricity companies. The average person will try to use less water to have lower bills but they will carry on putting the cost up. Potentially they can earn more money. It’s not about saving water but about making a larger profit.0 -

Yes thats a good thing, water is in short supply with the rapid growth in the south something has to be done, people take water for grantedoverworked_underpaid wrote:but they will carry on putting the cost up. No they cant, water prices are regulated by OFWAT they cant just put bills up like the gas and electricity companys can.
Most people are better off ona water meter as they can save a great deal of money.0 -

It is nowhere near as 'disgusting' than the old charging system based on the Rateable Value of your property; that had no connection to how much water was used.0 -

I completely agree with that.
Dare i suggest the water companies could invest in additional infrastructure to service the increasing demand.
Thames water for instance proposed a plan to put a desalination plant on the Thames but good old Ken thought that wasnt a good idea for some reason and blocked it.
I know they are also looking at building a reservoir in Oxford.
Dont know what the other South East water robbers sorry companies are proposing to do if anything.
Sorting out the system leaks would be a good start i guess.0 -
Clarification is in a letter to the Daily Telegraph today

Water meters are the only fair way for water to be sold.
Thames cannot easily fix all the leaks as it would mean bringing London to a standstill for months/years.
I suggest they crack an egg in the mains
GGThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.0
