Our analogue signal has gone off, can we have any free channels?

About July, the analogue signal for our area in Luton was switched off, so we had no TV channels.
We don't want to pay for TV, but thought that we could use a freeview box to get TV channels. My dh bought a Freeview box at car boot today, but it just says we have no signal, and upon checking on Freeview.com, there is no coverage in our area. It does say our switchover should be in 2012, so can someone explain if we can get anything without having to pay a monthly subscription. We do pay our TV licence BTW.

What TV region were you getting? Was it BBC East/ITV Anglia or BBC/ITV London?
I'm in Dunstable, so we're pointing towards the Sandy Heath transmitter near Bedford for BBC East/Anglia. What transmitter does the Freeview site tell you?
Just to add, that at worst you may need an new aerial, or it could just be a case of pointing your exisiting one to a different transmitter.Dave. :wave:0 -
Put your postcode in here and it'll tell you whats available to you from the transmitters within range

That's helpful guys. When I put my postcode in the freeview.com, it said it was the Crystal Palace transmitter serving us, and that we wouldn't be switched over until 2012. We could do with a new aerial, but I suppose, for the price of that, we may as well pay Virgin to give us TV.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Your analogue signal was not turned off in Luton as such, what happened was you were taking the feed from the virgin cable network and they chose to not provide that for free anymore.
You will receive all freeview channels in Luton via an aerial as long as there is no serious local issues, such as trees or that new monstrosity at the train station getting in the way.0 -
So it's a new aerial or dish then. Thank you all. I hate the thought of having to pay every month to watch TV, or should I say, my dh refuses to pay for it!!!!! I love my tv too much.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
