  • If the baby wasn't visible in the car, I doubt that the sticker would be either.....;)

As the mother of a 3yr old, I always wondered what the point of these stickers were and would never have dreamt of having one. I always assumed it was because many people, when they have kids, think the whole world wants to know. Truth is, no-one else is interested!!!! My husband & I always joke when we see a sign like that "OOOOhhhh, aren't they clever! They've had sex!!!"

I had the sticker when my DD was a baby. Not because I expected it to make other drivers more considerate (as if!!) but more that in the situation of needing to stop suddenly for any baby related emergency, at least other motorists have warning that there might just be good reason for pulling over in what they might have otherwise considered an inappropriate place.

I certainly never considered removing it when the baby wasn't in the car - never thought about the problems it might cause in the event of an accident, a very valid point. I will certainly try to do this when new baby arrives in 3 weeks time.

I don't think they are designed to make people around them drive safer, I think they are designed so that fire crew know to cut the baby out of a mangled car before the driver if the baby isn't visible. In fact I assume it's useful to the police and ambulance too to assign correct resources etc.

I understand its frustrating if there is no baby on board but whats worse, waste time looking down the embankment for a baby that's not there, or not know that a baby should be on board and only find it when it's too late...

  • I wasnt going to get one of these stickers when I had my DD, as thought the same as a previous member; "oooh they've had sex!!"... but thought hell, why not. If it just stops one or two drivers from driving up the a~~e of my car then it has done its job in my view. I know not everyone thinks like that but when I see one in the window of a car in front of me, i keep my distance just a little bit more! And yes, I am proud to be a mum so if it makes people aware of that whats the harm??

As a Paramedic who has worked for the Ambulance Service for 20 odd years, I can assure you I and my colleagues take no notice of any such sticker or label in car windows at the scene of an accident. As a previous poster said, too much time can be wasted taking notice of these. We are able to assess any given situation with calm and common sense - that's the type of person which attracts us to the job in the first place.
My theory is that a certain type of person likes to advertise to the world their virility and say "I can prove it - how about you?"
Myself - never wanted kids so I had a sticker that said 'Baby In Boot'.
Happy money saving to you all.
