Lloyds

After spending 3 weeks getting messed about for ID I get my account, the branch looks like its 1997 and the computers are antiquated, customer service poor and online banking takes a week to update

as if that wasnt bad enough went to a cashpoint using my visa debit and wouldnt take it, chucked it back at me as I can only use Lloyds cashpoints to take money out, are you kidding me? They must be the only bank that doesnt use the link system. Tried to pay using my card and chip and pin doesnt work. You couldnt make it up, I can use my card online but not in a shop or cashpoint

Will be looking for a new bank

Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

Looks like you have their basic account called Cash Account
Lloyds do use the link network but only allow their basic account holders to withdraw cash from Lloyds machines as clearly stated in the literature.
Online banking certainly doesn't take a week to update for me.
  • Online banking available always updates instantly for me - no problems using debit card online or instore with chip and pin - yes the only bug bear is the Lloyds Cashpoint only but this hasn't had a negative effect on me yet.

Online banking is the same for all ways of banking ie real time updating.

Did you read any of the correspondence that they gave you when the account was opened?

Don't think they will lose too much sleep over losing a cash account.

If you opened a cash account, then you should only expect the facilities offered on this accounts.
