I have had another chat with the dealer regarding the quote from glass.co.uk and he said that they price their cars in between glass and CAP valuations. I decided to do a CAP valuation and got a figure of £5475 as compared to Glass's £5550. The dealer's price stands at £6100, I have gone back to the dealer with this and he is yet to reply to me
Could these prices be right, the market doesnt seem to reflect these at all0 -
Personally I think it is expensive but then I buy Cat D cars and have them repaired. But your research should give you a band that the cars sell for and at some stage you just have to buy.
Good luck.0 -
Hi Hintza,
Yes you are right, it is expensive. I decided to go this route after buying a used polo 1999 1.4 L 2 years ago (not from a franchised dealer) which has cost me more than I bought it for. It had 63k on the clock and has had a lot of niggling issues which are still ongoing. It is now at a point where it needs a gearbox change, new shocks, new rear tyres which may cost more than its value and the garage's seem to be charging ridiculous amounts of money.
Going by this I decided that I would go for a one owner car with less mileage and something that is properly serviced and maintained. The car I am planning now seem to have full service history from skoda and has had one owner car.
I do like VW's but they are too expensive hence the decision for a Skoda0 -
My brother bought a Skoda Octavia in February, One company owner, full service history, 48,000 miles, 2006 56 reg, tdi Laurent & Klemin.
Absolutely immaculate in red with black leather. £4400 cash, it's made a lovely taxi and he prefers it to his Mondeo he had before.

30,000miles alone is very low for a cambelt change, although not impossible for manufacturers to advise this. In your case though, as has been said already, it'll be the year of the car as opposed to the mileage!Oh, I always thought that a cambelt change was required after every 30k miles. With this being the last weekend of sep and the quarter close for the dealer is there room for any haggling since they are already offering a years service and 6 months tax0 -
£6000 for a an average four year old supermini? It really isn't a good deal especialy since you can get very heavy discounts from new prices when buying brand new. I paid £6400 and got a discount of over £1500 off list without even trying.
A new Fabia can be had for £8k, and I reckon a two year old could come in close to £6k or am I missing something?
I realise its a diesel so list would probably be knocking on £10k but it still dosn't hide the fact this is a four year old supermini for £6000. The warranty can be bought quite cheap from places like warranty direct.
I would ask what the lowest price is they could go to without all the extras.
It does sound like a good car and I like the fact they have done the cam belt but I would want £500-£1000 of the price but without the warranty. The reason the cambelt was changed is rubber degrades with age. It is one of the main reasons I think low milleages cars can be bad value because the rubber bits like the belt and bushes etc would still be worn.0 -

Never bother with warranties IMO. If you don't need to claim you threw money away. If you do need to claim you've got to spend days of your time chasing them up in order to get them to pay what they say they will.0 -
Hi jd82,
Thanks for the informative post, I have been looking at used Skoda Fabia prices and it seems they just hold their values well. After glass & CAP valuations quoting it near 5500, autotrader prices are around the same for a car with that kind of mileage.

A new TDi SE would be over £12,000 RRP and an Elegance around £14000

Is it possible to get a new 105BHP TDi for cheaper somewhere, I wouldnt mind going for it and would appreciate if someone could point me to a discount retailer. (I have heard that you could get huge discounts but dont know where).
I cant find any 2 year old skoda's for around 6K, there is a 3 year old one though but it has done 55k miles, can someone advice please0 -
