  • i wouldn't, when i have left peeled pots in pan of water and 'forgotten' them for a day or two. the water has gone slimy and the potatoes have disintergrated from outside in. Ended up throwing the lot.

We don't use potatoes much (occasional roast and mash), so when i buy bargain reduced potatoes (yesterday reduced from £1.68 to 14p a bag) the ones i'm not using in the next day or two i steam, rice (put through a giant instument of torture like a garlic press), then bag up and freeze just as riced potatoe. These can then be taken out of the freezer when needed and used for mash (add butter and milk), fishcakes (add fish and saute'd onion) or yet to do it, make cakes with mash (hugh fernley-whit did this on tv recently, using mash instead of flour, thought id try this for gluten free cakes for my celiac friend at some point).

I also listen to the radio alot. You are right it is easy to listen and do work.I'm 55 and think it is rebelling against the TV programmes.

I know, that was my point :D. Just wondered if anyone had noticed it and wondered why their potatoes were growing!

You'd be the perfect person to ask then... are they still doing the potato measuring experiment for GCSE? It had been being taught for at least about ten years last time I looked.

I did my GCSE's 12 years ago  and yes, we were taught about osmosis by measuring potatoes!
