Ed Miliband wins Labour Leadership

There are still four and a half years till the next general election. A lot can happen before then, and a Lib Dem rebellion is still a possibility.0

So you want three centrist parties. Great for democracy!! :rotfl:
 What's so funny?
Elections are won from the centre. Labour won under Blair by appealing to the centre. The Tories "won" under Cameron, when he (and Osbourne) shifted to the centre. Michael Foot, Michael Howard and William Hague all lost because they pandered to their hardcore voters (and were personally unappealing in many ways).0

At last, common sense! Nearly true, but not quite. It's the so-called 'centrists' in the three main parties who are the biggest liars and thieves. The only honest politicians are those of the far-left and far-right, because at least they have principles and ideals. All the others are there to be bankrolled by the 'hidden powers' in the British establishment.
 No.
 They are ALL lying thieves.
The ones on the extremes might talk a good game but in reality they're all the same.

Before attacking the young Miliband, remember that this guy has a first class degree from Oxford.
So what? So has Cameron mate.
When you're supposed to be a candidate for running the country, experience is far more important than your degree classification.
 Ed's CV:
 Oxford
 Harvard
 Harriet Harman's speechwriter
 Gordon Brown's speechwriter
 MP for Doncaster North
 Energy Minister (briefly, achievements?)
Why can political parties select people that have had a life outside politics? Cameron and the other Labour candidates are not much better in that respect, but the idea of Ed Milliband being qualified to run the country with his experience is absurd.0

I agree. Why can political parties select people that have had a life outside politics? Cameron and the other Labour candidates are not much better in that respect, but the idea of Ed Milliband being qualified to run the country with his experience is absurd.
A degree in politics to me is a degree in self serving acts disguised as something else.
I'd much rather the next leader of Labour to be a straight talking gruff Yorkshire/Welsh/wherever person who had a background in science/engineering/industry.
Like it or not, we need more people skilled in IT and engineering, and things which earn this country money and reputation abroad.
All we seem to have from the Labour lot over the past decade is right-on Outreach Lesbian Coordinator roles.
The next leader needs to go live in Bradford or similar for 6 months and work out why a large chunk of parents and children have given up completely with the idea of working.
Anyway, I believe they are in Manchester for a few days; time to stock up on a few eggs.0

Much as I don't like the thought of another Labour Govt anytime soon, I don't think you can discount the possibility of there being one: A left-win OldLabour style party might appeal to a lot of people after 5 years of the spending cuts that are necessary.
That being said, it does feel a bit like 1980 all over again. Country broke, Tories in power & getting ready to cut spending everywhere, Labour no pretence of being anywhere but firmly on the left. Only difference is this time round we don't have any decent alternative comedy.0
