Exhaust fumes in car

Hi all,
Over the last few weeks I've noticed a strong smell of exhaust fumes in my ford focus (diesel). It is most apparent when I am stationary and I get a very strong smell of it when I park up and get out, so it's definitely me!
I've had a trawl through forums and some people suggest that it could be a hole in my exhaust. However I can't hear it "blowing" which it usually does with a hole. Others have suggested that it might be the pollen/fresh air filter is clogged. However the usually signs of this are misting up, which I don't get.
Can anyone suggest anything that it might be. I'm going to get it checked out somewhere tomorrow. It won't be kwik fit (after what I saw on watchdog
Any info appreciated!

You're doing the right thing in getting it checked out.
Exhaust fumes are lethal.
I would suggest stripping the exhaust down and rebuilding it.
Until you get it sorted keep your windows open when driving.0 -
More likely to be entering through the engine bay and into the blowers that way.0

1.6 TDCi by any chance?
Prepare for a big bill, and a very messy job.....

Exhaust holes dont always make much noise (depends where it is) so don't rule that out!0

Going to kwik fit this morning to see if they can see any holes. that will rule that out either way.
Andy yes it is a 1.6TDCi. That doesn't sound good! Do you want to expand on what it might be?0 -
You are going to KWIKFIT !!!!
Rather you than me......be prepred for some new brake pads....oh & new brakes discs as well !!!!
Have you thought that it might be a fuel leak onto the exhaust ???0 -
kwik fit were good and showed me that it wasn't anything to do with the exhaust. It was under the bonnet and one of the injectors is "chuffing". I could hear it and that is what needs replacing. He said he wasnt sure how much it was going to be.
Any ideas anyone?0 -

Normally it's the 1.4 version of this engine used in the Fiesta that gives the problems (they ALL fail) and you get the chuffing sound, and the smelll of exhaust fumes. They sound a little like a CVH engine with a wonky tappet, or a "train" when they all start blowing.
Now, the job itself isn't "that" bad, however the sheer mess you/the mechanic will find when they take the rocker cover off is the stuff of nightmares, diesel tar everywhere. It gets everywhere, and whoever does the job will have stained hands for days.
The only product that will remove this crap..... COCACOLA! Seriously, this is what Ford recomend. Has to be "proper" Cocacola, Pepsi or own brands don't work, neither does diet coke.
The part is about 30p, and a couple of hours labour. All four will be renewed as a precaution.
Would you consider DIY'ing it?

Is this not the part of i will be requiring?:

I've looked for "NEW" ones and they are around 300 quid which I simply can't afford!0 -

They about £2 inc. VAT for all four :rotfl:
That's a whole injector, which is a totally different kettle of fish. You'll be removing that part, and replacing a copper washer in the hole that bit goes in.
