Chocolate Week 2010
Celebrating the humble chocolate in all its forms, from bars, boxes, truffles, fountains and cakes to sculptures and drinks, Chocolate Week is all about trying and tasting every conceivable kind of chocolate, finding out how it's made and generally celebrating the delicious, melty sweet stuff that we all crave now and then.
Events for chocoholics
Throughout the week in October, chocolate fans can visit a whole range of venues around London to sample different kinds of cocoa based products, learn more about the different methods of production and find out how to tell the very best quality chocolate from the less impressive ones. Whether you want to try out exclusive new delicacies at La Maison du Chocolat, take part in The Great Brownie Bake Off with Divine on Old Street or meet an actual chocolatier at Fortnum and Mason, there is sure to be something to tempt you during Chocolate Week 2010.
Taking over London
Loads of different venues are taking part in the Chocolate Week London celebration this year with old favourites like Chococo and Artisan du Chocolat mixing it up cocoa style with the likes of Fortnum and Mason and sponsors of the event, Divine. Whether you like your chocolate wrapped up in a big box covered with hearts and flowers or pure and simple with 80 percent cocoa, there will be plenty of chocolatey treats in store for all throughout the week.
Lots of the tastings are free but some of the workshops aren't so
Chocolate train on show at St Pancras.
Commuters can catch a chocolate train at St Pancras International this October as the food artist and photographer Carl Warner invites you to check out his edible creations. Taking place at the same time as his one day food landscapes exhibition, St Pancras is also the location for his real life chocolate train art.
Kicking off at 7am on Thursday 14th October 2010, the Chocolate Express will be revealed to passengers passing through the international station. Designed to represent a steam locomotive, the type of which would have once been housed in the Barlow Shed at St Pancras, the chocolate train is a brand new piece of food art, that has yet to be shared with the public.
Edible art
On hand throughout the day to sign copies of his new book, Carl will also be chatting to visitors about his skills as a food artist and explaining just how he goes about creating his unusual foodscapes. He will also be adding to the scene of the chocolate train at St Pancras on the day, giving you the chance to see the artist at work with one of his edible creations.
Foodscapes
Marking the release of his book, Carl Warners Food Landscapes, a one day exhibition of his edible landscape photos takes place alongside the chocolate train at St Pancras. Created from a variety of foodstuffs such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, bread, fish, meat and grains, the foodscapes depict a series of vibrant, atmospheric landscapes which have prompted comparrisons to a modern day Guiseppe Arcimboldo. With some landscapes constructed entirely from meat, hot air balloons made from fruit and one featuring a sea of salmon, foodie and art fans will be delighted by the incongruous and spectacular images on show.
The chocolate train at St Pancras International takes place as part of the food landscapes exhibition from 7am - 10pm on Thursday 14th October 2010 on the upper level. Entrance is free.
The Chocolate Week London events run from Monday 11th October - Sunday 17th October 2010.0 -

Service 3pm
As traditional a feature of London as rhyming slang, join London's Original Pearly Kings and Queens Association at St Martin-in-the-Fields on Trafalgar Square for a harvest festival.
Produce collected is donated to the Connection of St Martin's, helping the homeless.
The distinctive, pearl button-swathed "Pearlies" date back 150 years to Henry Croft's adoption of the garb of the Costermongers (apple sellers) of Somers Town to raise money for orphans like himself. Henry Croft's memorial statue is in St Martin-in-the-Fields, making this commemoration truly fitting.

This year it will take place as part of the Heath Heritage Festival, providing all the family with a great chance to enjoy the onset of Autumn in one of London’s best-loved open spaces.
Organisations including the National Trust, RSPB and volunteer group Heath Hands will have stands at the festival where you can find out more about the work they do.
There will also be the chance to take part in felt-making, have a go at medieval (long-bow) archery and even take part in a welly-wangling competition. Or, if you’re feeling strong, how about getting a team together for the tug-of-war contest?
Morris dancers will perform throughout the day and will introduce the
festival’s finale, the conker championships – at 3pm.
The conker-meister will lead participants through their paces. There will be knock-out rounds for five categories – under fives, 5-8 years, 8-12 years, 13-16 years and adults. The winner of each final will receive a trophy.
