    Hang on,

Maybe they have different rules over there, I'm taliking about England, Scotland and Wales DVLA

    Yes, I am.

And the rules always seem to be different for us over here. :o

It seems they have the same rules as over here

    When to apply

If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from the fifth day of the month. If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you’ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply. If you want the tax disc to start on the first day of the next calendar month, you can't tax your vehicle more than two days in advance.

Oh my! The story of bumping into unknowledgeable staff - I despise that. You get that mostly with telesales but a post office staff:mad:
  • Just an update on my expired tax debacle....

I got sorted over the phone this morning by nice lady who took my debit card details. So I'm all legal again.:j:T

She tells me that only certain, very limited numbers of, post offices will renew your tax if you don't have your reminder letter. You need to print off a document from the website (DVLNI or similar) in that case and take to these "special" post offices, listed on their (post office) website.

And apparently the reminders are only sent out as a courtesy, no obligation - so it's up to you to remember!!

Hope not to get caught out by that again!!:o

I thin DVLNI is a little different to the mainland UK, as you can tax a car after the disc expires, I have done so many times.

At least you now have it sorted, I have set my MOT and Tax expiry dates into my Blackberry, for a week before, so that I don't forget as i have been in a similar position before.
