Can you lovely people please settle an argument between Mr 999 and myself? He maintains that lots of people eat the skin of kiwi fruit, while I think it's a very odd thing to do indeed and have never heard of such a thing.

This is my first post, so I hope I'm doing everything right.
I eat the skins of kiwi fruit and always have. The texture takes a bit of getting used to, but there's loads of flavour in the skin.0 -
Apparently the skin is more edible if you rub the fruit on your clothes/cloth etc to remove the hairs first.
Although personally I've never tried thisHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
My little girl always eats them with the skin on - says its yummy. Personally I peel mine, but I do think you are supposed to eat them with the skin on. I think thats where most of the antioxidants and vitamin C are. Correct me if i'm wrong.0

I wouldn't eat the skin of a kiwi, but I'm sure it's harmless.
I do eat peaches and pears. My husband had never HEARD of anyone eating a pear as if it were an apple until I did it.
One wierd thing I do: if I have a bag of roasted, salted peanuts in the shell (more common in the US) I will eat a couple of them with the shell and all. Not more than a couple, but I do kinda like it.:beer:0 -
I peel mine, But the skin contains most of the nutrients and fibre and is perfectly ok to eat0

My friend from Auckland NZ always eats the skin on kiwi fruit and says that it's the normal way to eat the things in the land of the long white cloud - personally I find it gross but then a) I'm not too keen on kiwi fruit, and b) I always peel peaches too! Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.0

Huh. Looks like I will have to eat my words, as well as some kiwi skin
Wow. I really thought no one did that. Peaches yes, but the hairy stuff on kiwis... ick! Well, at least it's one thing less to stop my one-year-old from eating....
thanks!0
