'A moped has an engine not over 50 cc with maximum design speed not exceeding 50 kilometres per hour which is approximately 31 miles per hourIf you obtained your car licence before 1 February 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped.'
So you can stop worrying.0 -

Wonder why they don't say "If you obtained your driving licence before 1990 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped or motorcycle of 125cc or less (with L plates)" Which as far as I know is the case.0 -

Because it's NOT the case!
You can't ride a 125 without doing a CBT, whenever you passed your car test.Long-haul Supporters DFW 120

True, and also note that not all 50cc Motorcycles are mopeds. If it has been de-restricted, or was never restricted to 31mph in the first place, it ain't a moped!0 -
It is black and white, Does your licence state moped under provisional or full entitlement?

I have category 'A' under provisional Entitlement
Which before 1990 entitled me to ride upto 125cc with L-plates according Motor Vehicles (Driving Licence) Regulations.
It may be the case that the new Regulations req'd a CBT test but was it applied retrospectively?
In any case I DID do a CBT test waaaay back so I have two questions
How long is my CBT valid for?
What happens if, as is the case, I have lost my CBT certificate?0 -
CBT is valid for 2 years0
-
The whole CBT is quite confusing, as said a normal CBT is valid for 2 years if you dont pass a bike test in that time. If you passed your car test before Feb 2001 and only want to ride a 50cc Moped you don't need to do CBT. Also if you pass a car driving test, whilst holding a CBT for a moped, the CBT validates your full moped licence entitlement and doesn't expire after 2 years.
