Is this good fuel consumption?
I'm sure it has been put somewhere on here but here goes.
We bought a zafira a couple of weeks back and i put in a total of £50..anyway the red light came on yesterday and it has clocked up 428 miles..think it did a bit before i put the fuel in too but we will go with that! So is that a good amount for the cost?
Thanks x

Depends on the engine size and what sort of mileage you are doing - lots of stop start journeys around town or longer journeys where you spend most of the jopurney in 5th.0

Mine does about 310 on a full tank normally.0

Sounds reasonable to me.0

My daughter has a Zafira 2.2 automatic and the fuel consumption is terrible.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

428 miles at a constant speed on a clear motorway, or 428 miles sitting in rush hour traffic in the centre of London?
428 miles can be Worlds apart, it all depends on the driving
Generally speaking, 428 miles for a full tank on a standard petrol car sounds perfectly okay.0 -
Assuming you paid around £1.12 a litre, I calculate that you used about 45 litres of fuel to go 428 miles which makes it 43mpg. I'd say that's very fair for a vehicle that isn't small. You don't say what engine you have though. It that's the big petrol one I'd be amazed, if it's a modern diesel I might hope for a few more Mpg.
For future reference, each time you fill the car, reset the trip counter. Next time you fill it, note the trip milage on the reciept, then you have the number of litres used to cover your trip milage, and can accurately calculate your MPG. Not only does this make really exciting dinner concersation, it allows you to spot any potential problems early.
Fuel computers attached to cars tend to lie about average consumption, in my experience.0 -

1.6 petrol wasn't it?
To be honest they usually do about 30 to the gallon, not 43.
I'd average it over a few more tanks.0 -
Assuming it's a 58 litre tank like the later one, and assuming there was probably at least 3 litres left in the system when you refilled you are seeing 35mpg.0

Hi, thanks for the replys.
It's a 1.6 petrol 1991 Zafira. I have mainly been doing the school run in it and trips to the next town etc so nothing major but i did go to bristol with my sister last weekend which was a fair way.
Just wondered as feel like its done pretty well so far.0
