iPhone on 3 Internet usage
Hi all,
I've been 'trying' to cancel my contract with T-mobile (I'm on the last month) and go for the iPhone 4 offer with Three.
Instead of T-mobile offer me a good deal, they keep talking about how 3 are terrible....
They claim that on 3, after the 1GB allowance is up, your iPhone will keep using the internet, even if you're not, because that's what the phone does: just uses internet on its own.
T-mobile says their Internet allowance is unlimited, even if they say it's 500MB on paper.
Anyone here is with 3 + iPhone to shed some light on this, please?
I had given my 30 days notice with T-mobile but I had to cancel the cancellation in order to get my PAC code. They say you still need to stay with them for 30 days for the PAC code to be issued. What a rip off...

From what I understand, all the tariffs on all the networks are pretty much identical for the iphone, so you have to decide whether you want to pay a relatively high monthly and low cost for the handset or lower your monthly rate by increasing the initial outlay for the handset.
A colleague has just purchased a 3gs and his credit was diminishing over the weekend, so yes there is somethiing running that gobbles the data use (but then again that is true for at least the HTC HD).
He has decided to switch to the Tesco £10 per month sim only deal.
If you really think the networks are going to offer you a great deal for a 'top' handset then more fool you

sounds like t mobile are spinning you some here, I think PACs are supposed to be issued within a week.
yes the iphone is an internet intensive device but when you get near/reach your limit you can turn off all data in the settings, but I no unlimited is 'unlimited' usually the FUP on tmobile is 3GB but since they have said 500MB that would be written into your contract and they can enforce that at anytime. (wouldnt be good if they decide to enforce it part way into your contract.
If t-mobile were trying to say that 3 mobile was bad coverage then the jokes on them as 3mobile uses t mobile 3G masts (aswell as their own) to give as good (+ more because of their own masts) coverage than tmobile.
personally I would go for the higher written into your contract limit. I doubt you will ever go over 500MB but it is always to have the truer higher limit in your contract.0 -
That's total nonsense, like the poster above says you can just turn off mobile data if you don't want to use it.They claim that on 3, after the 1GB allowance is up, your iPhone will keep using the internet, even if you're not, because that's what the phone does: just uses internet on its own.0 -
For a start 1gb data use on an iphone is a lot of data.
For example on my iphone i use the internet every day for allsorts from youtube videos to facebook etc to internet browsing. On an iphone the pages are condensed smaller versions so it doesnt load as much data in one go as it would on a full size computer.
In the last 4 weeks I have only used 221mb of data! No where near the 1gb allowance they give you.
What utter rubbish that t mobile r talking.
If you have an iphone now you can monitor ur data usage by going into settings, general, usage and at the bottom you can see usage of data. You want to look at the received section.
Reset it as most likely its never been done and then use your phone for aweek as normal and u will see you dont use much even the 500mb that tmobile give you is no where near it.
Go for 3 thats where I am off next month when I leave tmobile for good, what a rip off they r.
My brother is on 3 and he says its the fastest network hes ever been on a few yrs ago they were poo but now they have invested heavily in the network.
Hope this helps. If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

If you think the 1gb data will not be enough (tbh you would have to be online 24-7 and using data intensive stuff to go over) 3 do an add on for £5 which will give you an additional 2gb of data.
T-mo really are talking rubbish about the network coverage as well, the improvement in the last 2-3 years has been phenomenal plus the IP4 is so much cheaper on 3 than anyone else its a no brainer really!0
