On Monday I made a sausage and root veg casserole in my SC, to use up some prepared veg I had left over in the fridge from a couple of days before. As usual I made more than we could eat, as it's just me and OH, so yesterday I had some for lunch with the last couple of slices of ‘whoopsied’ bread from a couple of weeks ago, which was in the bottom of the freezer. Then last night, I added some sliced courgette and peppers, which I had leftover in the fridge, to the remainder and put it in a baking dish, then I topped it with mashed potato (made with some sliced potatoes which were in the fridge) and baked until the mash was nicely browned. It was lovely, even if I do say so myself, and I was very proud of myself for using up the leftovers, I’m learning, lol!
Sue.
Sounds lovely, well done :A0 -
Well, I feel quite good but tired! I've spent several hours doing a proper budget spreadsheet, all the monthly bills etc, working out OH's average monthly income, the lot...now I just have to keep it up to date, which is the easy bit:) Just hope I don't keep finding things I've forgotten to include.
Shopped today, after 3 Nsds. £57.96, mainly MrT's. Not a lot on groceries, most of it was wine, dog food, beer and coffee! But that has to be done when OH can come with me which isn't often, and should last quite a while. And we didn't get a single thing not on the list!
Still haven't spotted how to do the signature thing, so:

Hi everyone - updated my total with this weeks spends in L!dl, M0rrisons and local turkish shop for some Dried Herbs, works out so much cheaper buying them there, huge bags for only 75p.
Doing well on meal plans this week, Monday was a curry using leftover lamb from Roast on Sunday, last night was a leek and bacon pasta dish and tonight we are having a Chicken Casserole. Trying extra hard to keep within Budget this month.
Good luck everyone."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Welcome to all newcomers £1.39 on kilo carrots, kidney beans & tinned toms at Lidl. Used up my kidney beans in a batch of chilli(delicious, tastes just like my mum's!) and thought I was running low on tinned toms... of course I go to put the new tin in my box and find two cartons of chopped tomatoes!
I always keep a running total of 6 tins of tomatoes in my cupboards - although it's usually more like 10 if I'm honest - as I use so many of them. Also try to keep a running total of 4 kidney beans, 4 mixed beans, 4 chickpeas 4 baked beans, 4 coconut milk, 2 Chicken Broth (for Herby Chicken Thighs...nom nom) 2 Corned Beef (for Corned Beef & Potato Pie) 2 Processed Peas (I know, but I love 'em and don't have them very often) 1 tin of Potatoes (for emergencies) 2 tinned mushrooms (for emergencies although prefer to use fresh as tinned always seem to have the consistency of a flattened slug) 2 Tuna, 2 Fruit Cocktail, 2 Pears & 2 Condensed Milk.
I find now I have that as a base, it's easy to keep it topped up, and I don't get caught out by recipes asking for a tin of whatever and I haven't got one in stock. So far I've managed it, there have been a few 'triticale, put that back on the bl**dy shelf, it's not on the list!!' moments though.:rotfl:
Lol - I do that too, but only in the last couple of months, so I guess that means we are actually making progress in our attitude to the way we shopAug11 £193.29/£240

Hi All
I'm a total newbie on MSE and have been reading lots of threads over the past few nights.
I'll condense my story for you all. Im a single mother of a 5 year old, work full-time (ex is great with son). I have new partner and we hope to move in together when we have enough money saved. So I need to make drastic cut backs.
My house is ready to go on market and when, should I say if, it sells my son and I plan to move in with my Mum to allow me to save. Partner has already up'd his savings (£400 mth).
I have a terrible habit of nipping into shop for few things and hour later I am £60/70 lighterand have nothing to show for it. After reading this thread I have decided I NEED to cut back on my crazy spending on food.
TBH I havent got a clue how much I spend on shopping per mth, do you think I could try £120 for the remainder of the month???? I have cupboard full and freezer full. I think this thread will empower me to watch my spending.
This is gonna be my first big step into careful budgeting...........YIKES :eek:October Grocery Challenge: £1200 -
I've had another couple of spends. £20.04 at M+S and £3.27 and the co-op. Got a bit carried away buying chocolate and snacks as I've just split up with my boyfriend so I'm feeling a bit down
I'll have to stop the comfort eating soon as putting on lots of weight isn't really going to help me in the long term in my quest for mr right.

Spigs - where are you? You and hubby ok I hope?
Hi Hippeechiq,
I'm here and yes we're ok thank you. It's just been a crazy busy week and I've only had the energy to read and thank but no brain space left to post. Actually OH went back to work today :T and he's very tired but satisfied that he got back. I think he'll sleep very well tonight. The way I'm yawning I will too.
Oh, I did post some bits around the weekend but they were over on the MFW board as I had a momentary confusion about my OP which started this week. They're a lovely bunch over there and helped me get my head straight again!
I haven't actually been up to much other than working this week. We've had a couple of NSD and I had to get a bottle of milk so all of 86p spent. OH does have a long list for me for tomorrow mind so trying to decide who to give my hard earned dosh to at the end of the work day!
By the way, I just recieved a members email from C**p and they're advertising an eat in for two deal at a fiver. It's a main course and two sides apparently. As I've never done the M*S one for a tenner I have nothing to use as comparison but thought I'd just let everyone know. Oh and there's an extra 50 points for buying it if you've got their card.
My tom kitten (9 yr old kitten mind you!) turned up a couple of nights ago with a cut of some description to his tail - my my it bled like you wouldn't believe. It was everywhere. Anyway, thankfully once we'd cleaned him up we realised it was only the tail and not all his back end as it first appeared. He 'slept' on the bed then all night but I didn't! The slightest movement and I was up, light on, make sure he's ok ... all night. That's why I'm really tired 'cos work's been hectic too and haven't had time to catch up on sleep. Roll on tomorrow as no work on Friday. :j
Ok only got as far as your post Hippeechiq as felt I had to reply straight away, thanks so much for your concern, I could hear it! :A So I'm gonna read the rest of the two pages that have built up since yesterday. Speak again tomorrow.
Take care,
SpigsMortgage Free October 2013 :T0 -
