I'd check out benefit advisor on this site even with rough figures will give you some details of possible entitlements. Mums wage approx £110 dads JSA £65 plus whatever council tax and morgage/rent is.
If your dad has health issues does he recieve care/support from your mum, he may be entitled to claim contribution based ESA if he is in poor health and DLA depending on care needs.Beth

well, on a basis salary of £2900 per month, there wasnt much left over tbh...a £400 mortgage, two cars, lots of petrol (he was an auditor, HQ was in abbingdon) but in one week went from middlesbrough on monday, to oxford on tuesday, up to edinburgh on thursay, back home the same evening and down to brighton on friday morning, return home sun evening. So in the last 6 months, your Dad has earned nearly £19k. Has any of that been saved?
to be fair though, how many people when earning a decend amount think, im going to lose my job, im not going to spend any money. they are cautious in regards to money, always have done. they dont smoke, dont drink, dont drive posh cars or live extragigant lifestyle, they had about £7000 saved up just before he lost his job. they got a front bay window extension, completed 4 days before he found out he was losing his job. my mum darent even decorate now as she is frightened about spending the money...
in regards to his health, it is not serious enough to get dla or similar. on meds for un-controllibly high blood pressure, amongst 4 other different meds which i cant say let alone spell, but thanks for the advise all the same....they has struggled on as long as they cud without claiming for jsa incase he found a job, but nothing has come up so has started the ball rolling with our 'so'called local jobcentre plus'...its just so annoying that the people who desperately want to work always seem to get penalised, but the people who dont want to work, and chose not to get everything. its just a shame that to get anywhere living in england, u need to not speak the language....enough said!
but thanks to everyone who did comment, i shall forward them to my parents and see where it gets us...0 -
hi, morgage is a fixed for the next few years, at £400 per month, repayment. ive explained to her about options of interest only to temporily reduce payments etc, but that for her is last case resort which i understand as i have been there myself. there is no mortage protection, silly we know, they both are to blame for that one, my dad was left to do it, forgot and never remembered...and my mam didnt think to question him about whether he had sorted it, mortgage value £58k, house value £130k ish, another 18 years left in term. they did have a endowment thing. she did try and explain it to me, but i cudnt grasp what she was meaning, and never did find out whether she had been mis-sold or not....Hi
The details about the mortgage, what sort, how much interest, how long etc.0
