Help with thermostat please!!

We have recently bought our first home and the thermostat for the combi boiler was broken. When we went to our local parts place, we were quoted £125 for a new one. We were really shocked as we were only expecting to pay about £50 max for a replacement one.
If anyone knows anything about boilers and thermostats i'd really welcome any advice as money is prett tight at the mo!!
The boiler is a Bosch RX2 and the old, broken thermostat was a Worcester Digistat CD- but apparently this is now obsolete and has been superceded by the new one, a Digital Transmitter Greenstar MK2 which is £125.
Does anyone know if we have to get this specific one? Or could a cheaper one be used? As we have absolutely no idea about these things i would really appreciate any help with this.
Thanks!
Nikki

Are you just talking about the thermostat in the room? If so they're cheap as chips.

Unless you need a full digital programmable one?0 -
Thanks for the reply- no, it's actually the digital one. Our combi boiler is in the loft and we have no way of controlling/programming the heating etc unless we go up there. That's why we need one on the landing or the hall- we were just so shocked at the price!0

Was this not noticed when surveyed, perhaps you can claim against the seller, this will depend on when you moved in, normally seven days?0

I not an expert on WB boilers, but I know that some of them, slightly older ones perhaps, needed a specific WB digistat to enable the boiler funtions to operate properly.
Have you the instruction book for the boiler?
If so see if it says you need a WB one.
If you haven't, post the exact model on here and we can look it up.
Even a standard Honeywell programmable wireless stat will set you back around that price.0
