  • Most companies hire in Ali tower as and when they need it for the job they are doing.
Remember it is the Companies responsibility under various regulations to ensure that they do the job in a safe manner, they are supposed to do a risk assesment on the job in hand.
Whether or not they pass the costs on to the customer depends on the situation.

    For the SECOND floor?

    Quite.
Whether or not they pass the costs on to the customer depends on the situation.
If the company has its own access kit then there will prolly be a minimal charge built in to the quoted price. I don't know of any company that would hire in 3 or 4 lifts of scaffolding and NOT pass it on to the customer.

    Cheers

  • As i said it all depends on the situation on site, if a company quotes for a job, how they do that job,and what they use to do it ,is then down to them.

If however they tell the customer they would need to have access gear to do the job, then they can tell tell cust to either get the gear sorted themselves or the company will hire it and pass on the cost.It does happen.
I have worked in tool/plant hire for 11yrs, Ali tower is probably our most popular hire item, esp as you are not supposed to work off ladders. (well you can in some circumstances, but generally its frowned upon)

As for Ali tower for a second floor,as said before, if windows are extra large, or very heavy, you might need a tower just to safely handle the frames in to the workspace.

Have to say having bought my own Its one of the best pieces of kit ive ever bought(always add on £80-00 to every quote when I use it..Well worth the outlay and a few of my customers have bought their own for when they have trades in as it keeps the overheads down. The company I got mine from do one 2.8 metres wide x 0.9 metres deep and a working height of 17 metres...

Ive got a small one 7.2 metre working height...;)

The height of the working platform should not exceed 3 times the height of the minimum base dimension.
That means for a 17m high scaffold you need a base with a minimum dimension of nearly 6m.
Even your 7.2m scaffold needs a minimum base dimension of 2.4m
It must be quite restrictive where these towers can be used given the size of the base required.

Having been up a tower scaffold approx 4-5m high, I definitely don't fancy a 17m one!!!!

Thats nice to know but how does it help the specifics of the OPs question?
As for Ali tower for a second floor,as said before, if windows are extra large, or very heavy, you might need a tower just to safely handle the frames in to the workspace.
and the OP has a quote from a potential contractor who has seen the site (which none of us have) and knows the product he is to install and quoted for scaffolding - what if there isn't enough space down below for the footprint of a tower to reach the second floor.

    Cheers
