Disabled & been asked to attend work focus interview

Hi my father is disabled, he has parkinsons, diabetes amongst other things and he is on dla and icb.

He has been asked to attend a work focus interview at the job centre. What I would like to know is that it is quite obvious from my father's ill health and progressive disability that he is not able to work so what is the point of asking him to attend this interview?

    To assess his difficulties.

They could find that he is capable of some type of work if your Father doesnt gain enough points.

This is what is says on the official site.

    Work-focused interviews

You will usually be invited to a series of up to six Work Focused Interviews.
Your needs will be assessed and the approach taken will be based on this assessment. This helps you receive a more personalised service. If you receive Employment Support Allowance the second Work Focused Interview will not normally be conducted until the outcome of your Work Capability Assessment is known.
Your interviews will be with a personal adviser who will:
    • help you to remain focused on your ability to work
    • help you develop a personal action plan to help you get the job you want
    • discuss work opportunities with you
    • explain the support that may be available to address key health and non-health related obstacles - for example, managing debt
    • tell you about any financial benefits you may be entitled to once you start work
    • work out how much better off financially you would be in work
How old is he and does he claim Disability Living Allowance?
  • Unfortunately due to all the fakers out there - innocent geniune claimants have to be checked as well.

A wfi isnt a medical, why are you giving people such bad advice on this and other threads?

I was replying to the other poster.
What does "other threads" have to do with this one?

    What rate of DLA?
    How severe is the Parkinsons?
What sort of Parkinsons? Type A or B?
Are you sure that he is on Incapacity Benefit?

If he is exempt from the PCA, then there should be no question of any interview.

If he is on IB he is exempt from the PCA if ...

... he receives High Rate Care component of DLA, or
... Constant Attendance Allowance (intermediate or exceptional rate), or
... has "uncontrollable involuntary movements or ataxia which effectively renders [you] functionally paraplagic".

He will also be exempt if he can show medical evidence (a Med 4 for instance) of ...

    ... Parkinsons Disease, or
... multiple effects of impairment of function of the brain or nervous system causing severe and irreversible motor, sensory and intellectual deficits.

However, you have said that he has been called for a 'Work Focused Interview'. This suggests that either he is on ESA or that something is seriously adrift. More information please.

NB A friend of mine with Parkinsons also received a very threatening letter demanding that he attend a Work Focused interview. When it was pointed out that he had Parkinsons, they realised that they had made a very serious mistake indeed, and backed off, fast.

People on IB are also expected to attend WFIs.

Correct. But not if they are exempt from the PCA.

I don't need a link to DIAL to understand PCA exemptions! Parkinsons does not automatically exempt someone from the PCA, so the fact that he has been called for a WFI does not necessarily mean something is seriously adrift.

Best to gather information before making sweeping statements. :p
