Wondering if anyone can help this 50 something find what i am looking for.....I love listening to 5 live, but due to work i miss a lot of the programmes..they often say on 5 live that the programmes are available on podcast.
Anyway a friend of mine said if i get an i pod that i will be able to down load them and listen later....Can anyone point me in the direction of what i should be looking for, something simple to use and that wont cost me a fortune...cheers....

Radio be better for you? It's an iPod, iPad or iTouch.

Ok, Back again Here is what you need to know, just looked at Radio 5 Live to see what's on offer for you. Download ipdl.exe from http://po-ru.com/projects/iplayer-downloader/ and install to your desktop so you can see it. Cut and paste the ID into ipdl, from your selected Radio 5 Live page (it's the 8 character code in the address line for example :-

    Thats it.

    "50 something" me too...enjoy.

Oh and get the iPod from Apple not a reseller/agent, there is a new product line out now and only Apple seem to have them, all others selling off old stock.
  • I own an ipod too (the now extinct ipod mini!) but I use it less and less as I use my mobile phone for its radio and mp3 player.

Your mobile phone may be able to play those files for you...

    I have an iPod shuffle.
But you don't necessarily need an Apple iPod.
Just any mp3 player will be OK.

You can also 'listen again' on your computer using the BBC iPlayer website.

All OP needs to do is download itunes for free, subscribe to the 5live podcasts and listen to them at leisure on the pc.
No need for ipods unless they want a portable device.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

another vote for an mp3 player rather than an ipod - itunes is a pain in the a**, keep it nice and easy with an mp3 player, and youcan pick them up well cheap now...what about something like this, with fm radio built-in and under £15 delivered???

... but the OP hasn't asked for a portable means of listening to these podcasts, merely a way of downloading them and listening to them - presumably at their PC - and iTunes (free) fits the bill for an inexpensive solution.

I cannot post links as I am a new member but if you go to the five live podcasts page www (dot) bbc (dot) co.uk/5live/podcasts/ then you can view, listen online and download all of five lives podcasts. you can then either listen to them on the computer, transfer then to a phone or buy any cheap mp3 player and copy them to that for listening on the move (currys cheapest mp3player is £12.99 and will work 100% with the podcasts from the five live website.

I agree that with a program like itunes you can automate the process (eg it will check and download the podcasts for you when you open the program and will also delete the episodes after you have listened to (so it doesnt waste space) although depending on the format the podcasts download in you may have to use an ipod to listen to them.

I would start with the website option and if you get the hang of it and want to listen to them on the move then just buy a cheap mp3 player.

    You don't need an i-pod.
