Do you mean hide? I can't find how to cancel them permanently.more dollar$ than sense0 -

I bought it Jan this year.
I've noticed one particalar update (to download a security tool) that I don't want to install so I hide it, but it keeps coming back as an update- so annoying.more dollar$ than sense0 -

is it: Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool cause that is fine to install even if you have antivirus (which you should), there is a new one gets released every month with update tuesday, other than that unless you have windows defender turned on (which has updates every couple of days) you shouldnt be getting updates all the time.
I would just install the updates they are designed to protect you.
if you want to get rid of microsoft software updates BUT keep windows updates then go into windows update>change settings (on the left) and then untick Microsoft updates. this will turn off updates for microsoft office and any other microsoft software like silverlight or live essentials.
(just incase you don't have antivirus (which I'm sure you will have) I recomend the free (and very light) microsoft security essentials)0 -

sorry, this is not right - it's heavier on resources than either avira or avast, it also increased my ping times ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

The office suite was a trial, that's why I got rid of it (had to use a program called 'get rid of officesuite' or something like that-it just wouldn't uninstall itself) and installed openoffice, but I still get updates for it ms office. I hide the ones I don't install, but new ones arrive almost everyday still, certainly not once a week as previously mention by someone. I must be doing something right, cause it runs like a dream, it's just these damned pesky updates.:(
you sure office is completely removed as i cant see any other reason why you woudl still get updates, i had the 2010 trial version of office and once it had ended i uninstalled and i get no notification of updates for the suite0 -

I have elected to keep powerpoint viewer only- so maybe that's why?more dollar$ than sense0 -
well..as ppv is a component of MS office... :P
as others have stated - the updates are specific to your hardware+software, just let them install. Refusing to accept the malicious software tool is just ...well....polite words fail me.
Please turn automatic updates on, without notifications, then at least yours won't be one of the infected next time around, hopefully. The fact that you didn't consider PPV as MSOffice suggests that really you don't know better, and should allow microsoft to try keep you safe.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

The 'run 1 time malicious software tool' , does not impress me. I mean 'run 1 time'? What happens after that? I believe I have enough security as it is to cover this.
As far as updating anything that Microsoft throws at you- well I won't be installing KB971003 update, when that appears either.
Thanks all the same.more dollar$ than sense0
