I would recommend what dogmaryxx suggested and download Malwarebytes.
Run a scan just to check you have no nasties on your system.
As for reverting back to AVG if you feel comfortable using it then go ahead but it is not one of the best AVs to use these days because of low detection rates.
Either Avast or MSE would be preferably.
as above.. I've been running MSE with no problems at all and of course it's free.. use MWbytes to scan regularly just in case..
if you would prefer a paid version.. Kaspersky or NOD32 would be my choice...0 -

It could just be your internet connection which may be quite busy at this time.
You could try this site to download Malwarebytes from.
Download the latest version (it is near the top right in the link with a green downward pointing arrow).
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Once downloaded open Malwarebytes and update it first before running a scan.
Tick any problems Malwarebytes may find when the scan has finished and then remove them.
Post the log file (just copy & paste) in your next message.0 -

Daughter in law copy & pasted as didnt know how to do it, hope this is what you need & understand..0 -
The definitions are slightly old but probably all right if the scans were carried out yesterday.
However for future scans with malwarebytes, please remeber to go to the UPDATE tab, click CHECK FOR UPDATES then run a scan.
I would be tempted to remove all traces of AVG from your computer with http://www.avg.com/download-tools
as it will slow down your computer.
Also I think a lot of us were worried that avira wasn't uninstalling easily and that you couldn't open it.
If you want us to check that all is ok, install:
Download HijackThis 2.0.2 - FileHippo.com and DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE and post that log here. It will only take a few seconds to scan but will show what's running on your computer, which we can use to advise if anything else needs looking into or not.0 -

All the virgin software you have running probably isnt helping any
Use the 32 bit AVG removal tool
http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Download CCLEANER
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim
Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)
Now its upto you how you proceed
Id recommend installing AVIRA or AVAST and starting afresh:idea:0 -
