I have Freeview built in to my TV, can I add FreeSat too and benefit from both?

Am confused, I have Sony Flat screen with built in Freeview, I have moved to a new house which has a sky dish. I dont want to pay Sky subscription, but would like the benefits of FreeSAT (e.g HD channels and iPlayer) but dont want to lose my additional fun Freeview channels, like DAVE and 4Music.
If I add a FreeSat box to my TV can I get both freeview and FreeSAT and therefore the benefits of both? or do I have to chose one or the other??

You can use the inbuilt freeview tuner and add a Freesat tuner box to your tv and watch either.
A Freesat HD box is about £70. You can add extra free to Air channels to a Bush Freesat HD box.0 -
You can have both - a freesat box is just another tuner - you just switch between the inputs on your TV.0

Cheap now, does it have 2 tuners and record?0 -
£70 is just for a viewer only. To record it will cost £200 +.
You will need an extra feed (two wires) from your dish for a recorder.0 -
You can buy the Humax Foxsat HDR for £180 for a reconditioned one from the Humax store. This does HD, and records. Plug 2 satellite feeds into it to be able to watch and record at the same time, same as Sky+. You can also keep your aerial plugged into your TV to get those channels that are on Freeview.0

Thanks all. So with a FreeSAT recorder - can I use this to record Freeview too?0

No you can't0 -
So, you need two cables from your sky dish? I seem to have 2 from my dish...but ive no idea where they both go?0

Then try following the cable run from the LNB...it's not exactly rocket science.
They'll either both go to the same wallpoint,(if the previous install was for Sky+) or to 2 different ones if wired for different TV's in different rooms. Even if not wired as a twin feed it''s an easy job to reroute both to the same location. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
2 lines from dish, both into the back of the Freesat recorder. 2 satellite tuners inside, same as Sky plus. Zero Freeview tuners inside, so no freeview recording.
Just to let you know that it functions no problem with just one feed, with the obvious limitation of only being able to view OR record one thing at a time.0
