Magnaclean

Hi, heating experts!
I've got a magnaclean attached to my boiler - it's started dripping water slightly - it's coming from the join between the lid and the body, so I guess it's cleaned so much gunge from the system it's time it was cleaned out itself.
It's got instructions on the device how to open it, so is this something I can/should tackle myself, or should I call my installer in to do it?

Only you can answer that knowing your own level of competance etc
You have the instructions so I'd say have a go before it gets too cold, you can get him round if you can't sort it.
I fitted one for my daughter this time last year, cleaning out the bowl was a simple enough operation as I recall :beer:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
There was a batch of magnacleans with faulty o rings in the lid which causes them to leak. You will need an update kit with a new black o ring (the faulty ones are red). I would speak to your installer about getting the kit.

black and the red was the colour of the taps/valves ..not the o-rings ..if i remember rightly .
the red tapped ones are the earlier design ..that were not so good from what ive read .

You are right about the red and black isolation valves, but the magnacleans with faulty lid seals have red o-rings, and the kit to solve this issue has a new black o-ring.0 -

Call adey, they will send you a new 'o' ring.
You may have to give the magnaclean serial number first.0 -
Gosh, I didn't imagine it was a fault! It's less than a year old, not a very old one, is it likely to be part of this batch?
Looks like I'd better get the installer back in.0 -
I would imagine so, I'm still replacing them every now and again.

Could just want tightening up a little.0

Hi, I've just given tightening the top a go. There was a surprising amount of give in it (if you see what I mean) - I could turn it a little way with my hand - took a rubber device to it to give it a really strong turn, so my hopes are high that that's all that was needed.
I'll start on the other options if the easy one doesn't work! Will keep you posted.
Thanks everyone! :beer:0
