Change of phone t-mobile xperia x10

I am now starting to extremely !!!!ed off with sony erricson.
I got a xperia x10 2-3 months ago on a 24 month contract after ending my other contract 1 month early due to the face I got my old android phone stolen and it was not insured.
So the problem is that xperia x10 runs android 1.6, that is an old version and was meant to be getting updated at the end of this month but due to sony erricson being idiots it is now the end of next month. Also when it does update it is only getting updated to 2.1. The latest update for android is 2.2.
I have seen a timeline for updates on the xperia x10 and xperia x10 and the 2.2 is not even on the timeline for the next year. Also the xperia x10 touch screen is not going to support multi-touch when it does finally update.
So I have came here for some advice. At the time of me getting the phone I am sure it was advertised to have all the latest applications etc etc but I cant get all the latest applications due to the fact that that newer applications are being made for 2.1 and above.
Do you guys have any suggestions? I know I could just sell the phone and get myself another android phone but I would be loosing money that way.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
