new tv

Hi

we are needing a new tele, we have a built in freeview/video/dvd combi, although we cannot get freeview at present:((but we have sky anyway) I was wondering if there is any slimline tele that does not come with freeview? all the ones I can see have freeview and I don't want freeview at all.

Thanks

  • Just as older TV's had analogue tuners, new TV's have digital tuners as standard, i.e. Freeview.

  • As Phantom says, and it won't hurt your TV to have it, you can still connect Freesat/Sky/HD whatever. Besides, some day, some place, you and Freeview might "meet again"...

Most tv's will have Freeview built in now. As o/p has said you'll have it for another time.

You can get tv's with Freesat built in too.

This is rather like saying "is it possible to buy a new car that comes without an engine" !

"Freeview" is now the normal method of receiving terrestrial television, if you don't want to watch it you don't have to. I find my freeview picture is slightly better than Sky.

You should be looking for a TV with FreeviewHD built in if you're thinking about the future, assuming you're ever going to get Freeview reception.

and you can still get some computers with windows XP at the present time, so sombody could of still be selling new teles with out the freeview. unfortuntely the freeview is not an option for us in the place we live hence the question.

Agree with car engine statement. "Not having freeview" means you don't have digital terrestial available (surely that's coming soon in your area though?), and since we're "all" about to go digital, this is like someone in the old days saying they don't have an aerial at all. It's the new standard, and that's why all new tvs are freeview compatible.

So you need a dish and freesat receiver, or sort out your digital terrestial issues :)

No manufacturer is going to market and sell an analogue only TV now which would be obsolete in two years when the terrestrial analogue transmissions cease and all the UK will be digital only.

we have digital in the area and we have a receveier not far from us, when we first moved in years ago the factors said they would consider doing something to the ariel nearer the time as the recevier we get from is not compatiable, we were getting a bounce back from another in the opposite directions but was only getting some channels, so we got sky, when the change over happened for a short period we got the full freeview signal but it is not working, but think it is do with the building ariel rather than the transmitter, but we have not been in touch with the factors to see if is them. it just that there are some channels that are on freeveiw but not on free sat (which we have) as you have to pay to watch them.
