For winter you can also buy ice chains that clip on to the soles of your boots/shoes - they're similar to the ones for tyres
See here to give you an idea

but I'm sure you'll be able to buy them much cheaper on EbayThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

Thanks for that.
But been caught out now, cos person can no longer take me to work from NOW....
Had a text message this morning to say they could no longer take me. Caught me out big time cos I am full of a cold and didn't give it a go walking from town - work this weekend to see how long it would take.
Was going to do it next weekend. Stressing now cos don't know if my plan leaves me enough walking time and I haven't got the funds to buy any working boots.
Of course thought I had 2 weeks to sort all this **** out.
Does anyone know of sites where people list their vehicles of when they're available to borrow? Know it sounds daft but awhile back I clicked on a link on yahoo advertising this and basically it was where people list when their vehicle is available to use. So some people listed them mon - fri cos the car was parked at a train station all day etc etc.
Thought this may be something now that is revelant to look into.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

try this and see if anyone is going near to where you'd be.
what are the surrounding pavements like in winter it it's next to a special needs school, is it well gritted?
try the walking thing from tomorrow, see how it goes, the other options are getting a bike, a segway, and electric bike, a scooter, roller blades, taxis, bussing it to other worker's stables and helping muck out the horses...borrowing a car from a family member and so on...
don't give up, the mornings are still light and no danger of frost just yet.
no need to panic just yet - if you're not used to taking the bus make sure you get there a bit early, some buses fly through the first part of their route then sit waiting as they're not meant to be early past the checkpoints.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I've tried that link as another person posted it, thanks though.
Signed up but no matches.
Really trying to find the one where people lend out their vehicle, typical that when I didn't need it as was just casually looking at the website I didn't think to book mark it. I know it had some weekly matches you see.
I don't know what the pavements are like in winter re grit as I haven't work at this site of the school in winter before (split site school due to it merging years ago), it being a special school doesn't make any difference as 99.9% of our students come in on buses (like sprays, midfield etc)
I would love to borrow my in laws car as the both work at the school in their village so their car sits on the drive, however father in law is the care taker of the school so during the day he often goes off fishing. No other family, mine are all back home in Australia.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Would IL's run you to work in a morning if you offerred to pay the petrol plus for any inconvenience?
postcard in newsagents window asking if anyone has a nearby shed/garage/out-buidling available to be rented out for youto keep a bike in?0 -
IL's would need to travel about 20 mins to come and pick me up.
They wouldn't wanna do a 40 min round trip just to drop me off at work that is 9 mins away from my house.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

Yea I mean't borrow as in the week or even on a daily basis if they needed it in the evenings.
'both work at a school in their village' I thought would of made sense in that they lived in a different village to our village.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Have you priced up a taxi, if you are using it regularly they may be able to offer a good rate, 9 mins isn't long in a taxi, got to be better than walking for 40 mins in the rain...0

I haven't priced up a taxi no, didn't know you could. Thought it would be a case of having to use it to find out the price.
Hmmm like that idea though, could just use it over winter and then if nothing has changed, will just bus it into town and then walk when winter is over/done with.
Thanks for that...Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160
