Need another way to work

It seems this week has been a week of problem, numerous ones mind you.
But I'm stressing re how I am going to get to work in 2 weeks time.
Basically beginning of June, OH's work told them all that no company vans could be taken home over night (delivery driver, used to unload and load at the end of each day, bring van home and next morning be straight on route to drop)
So I had our car to get to work. Now our car is wasted in the sense of OH purely just drives it to his depot, then jumps in his work van.
So I have been getting a lift to work. Wed was a nightmare, they couldn't give me a lift, only other person who comes past my village was going to pick me up, but accident on the main road for my village mean't she couldn't get through to pick me up. So I ended up getting a bus into town and then a 40 min walk to work. Was hr and a half late.
Today person who has been giving me a lift to work since June has told me that in 2 weeks time they no longer can as they have to attend to their horse in the morning and from that will go straight to work.
Now whilst I'm more than happy to get the bus into town and do the 40 min walk to work, I'm not 100% confident doing it when winter is here, icy footpaths, snow etc etc, more than happy to do it every other season except winter.
They're is no connecting bus in time, Id be at work in walking time by the time the connecting bus arrived.
Can people suggest what I could do? Especially just to over come winter really.
I thought about taking OH to work, that means extremely early mornings of like 3am get up to drop him off, his depot is in another village so buses for him to home are awkard.
If he's late on a Mon/Wed I have other commitments in the evenings so that proves a problem with how he gets home cos I couldn't pick him up.
Stress city honest, I'm worrying about it all the time, everything was just perfect with him bringing his company van home every night. Drivers even suggested a deducation of petrol per mile to get them home in the evenings in each weekly wage, but company said no...

can't OH get a lift to and from work? leaving you with the car0

Ask around for another lift.
Get OH to ask around about possible lifts.
Double-check buses, there may be another company in your area that does a different route.
Trade in your one car and buy two cheaper cars (one each).
Accept that you have to take the bus and walk, and invest in some good boots for winter.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

How far is your partner's work from home; could he cycle?Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Could you or OH get to work by moped or bike? Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

OH can't get a lift to work as he's a delivery driver each day is different, ie on his own cos its a 1 man job, next day 2 man job with another driver, next day 2 man job but with a different person.
Each delivery driver at his work start/finish at diff times, depending where on earth they're driving to in the country.
Cannot get another lift, have asked only other person who was picking me up yesterday but we both work at different sites now (school job but split site school) she doesn't want to commit 5 days a week, but is okay for 1 offs etc.
Have checked buses, 2 come into my village, 1 doesn't start in my village until after I start work. Only 1 connecting route from town to my my work, gets me to work like I said above too late. (have accessed my county councils online bus timetables)
Cannot trade in car, it is on HP, only had it since Jan.
OH's work is 10 miles from our house, aa route planner says its 17 mins away, is it hell. The whole journey is down the A46 which at the moment is a 2 lane road, with is heavily congested, hence it being blocked yesterday, always accidents. Its in the process of being turned into a 4 lane motorway.
Do you need a diff licence to use a moped?
Like I said, I will happily walk from town, have nothing against that at all, its just in the winter months I wouldn't be too confident about it, re slipping over etc etc.
Everything was okay last academic year cos i was at the school site in town, so had 2 people who could give me a lift or id just catch the bus and walk 5 mins.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

Hardly anything, 3.7 miles aa route planner tells me, a total of 9 mins. About right, takes a bit of time to get out of the village and onto the A46 cos of how busy it is.
Id bike it, as in cycle, but have no where to store a bike as live in a flat.
Also then couldn't get home as what I do now, is when school finishes I then get onto the school bus and escort the students home, after dropping the students off that bus stays over night at the site in town. That way if OH cannot pick me up at 4pm from work, I am then in town to catch the 4.15pm bus home.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Is that an offical job escorting the kids home? Maybe you can blag something from whoever pays you to do this? My other suggestions are:
Carshare e.g. https://www.liftshare.com/uk/ or http://www.nationalcarshare.co.uk/
Work out a system where a different person escorts the kids back each day (rota)
Cycle and learn how to be a ride leader so you can get the kids riding with you and supervise them. You could find somewhere safe to leave your bike I'm sure, even if its not in the flat
Other half starts to ride a scooter (motorised!) http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/RidingMotorcyclesAndMopeds/index.htm
Good luck!0 -
Any opportunity with the school bus in the morning?
Could you give OH a lift to work?
Thus leaving you with the car for the rest of the day.0 -

I live in a flat that DOES have cycle storage but there is no way I will leave my bike chained up in a non secure communal storeroom! Some flats now come with individual bike cages in the basement area but mine does not have this.
I have got 2 bikes - a racer and a mountain bike, and I just lean them against one of the walls in the bedroom.0
