  • sounds like he really needs to speak to student services at his uni... they will know the specifics of what he will be registering for as a course and what to say to student finance (who work best with specifics!).

good luck - glad he's learnt a lesson from it!

  • i had to swap course, which was fine with me! Started with Business Ecnomincs, failed two units, in first year, school of Economics told me I would be better off at the local college, rather then staying at University!

School of Business, which luckily for me was spereate, were happy to transfer me to the Business Management course. Took 8 classes instead of 6 in my 2nd year and passed them all with flying colours, went on to complete third year successfully too!

All a bit strange considering the school of Economics had lower entry grades, but this was 8 years ago and Unis are supposidly finidng it easier to be picky with which students they accept now.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

    Student services have been useless.

They do not even have a financial advisor in this week.

First week - the one when most problems arise and they dont have the staff on :(
  • It is September, how can he have just finished/failed? Surely he'd have been doing the exams in May or June. What happened to the resits that would probably have been in July?

He has only just been told about it - he has had no opportunity of resits.
  • something isn't hanging together - has he had a meeting with the tutor in charge of the course? it is very odd that they are only just telling him he can't do the year.

has he got a copy of the course handbook to check what procedures should be followed in this situation? they usually have to spell this stuff out.

Surely he cannot have just been told his results?
Results usually come out in June/July depending on when the exams are, therefore he should have been aware that he failed modules at least a month ago.
He should have a copy of the course handbook (or be able to download it from his uni website) which says what he needs to do to progress and what his options and responsibilities are should he fail a module.
  • It sounds like you're not hearing the full story!

Music tech does not have an exam, its based on coursework handed in over the year.

Yes he has only recently found out. Bad.

he handed it all in but part of it was lost.

This is a serious allegation, has your son pursued it at all? I always had to sign a declaration that my work was my own when I handed stuff in, which doubled as a receipt. Did your son get anything like this?
