How long should batteries in wireless mouse last

I got a new HP PC 3 weeks ago and it has a wireless mouse and key board. Whilst using it last night a message came up saying 'replace mouse batteries'. I can't believe they need replacing after only 3 weeks:confused: .

How long should they last?

Am I using the mouse correctly:o , as there is no On OFF switch so the mouse appears to be on all the time, flashing light on the mouse all the time even when the PC is switched off.

Never had wireless mouse or keyboard before.
Regards
erb :)

You are doing well. I have to replace mine weekly. I have resorted to putting 2500mAh rechargables in to get some decent time with them.

I have a dell wireless thingy mouse. :)

Last quite a long time in wireless ball meeces, but the optical ones have a much shorter life. Also, you often get pretty mediocre batts bundled in. I run mine (non-optical) with oldish rechargeables - set of 4 allows for "2 in, 2 waiting" so mouse not out of action too long.

Hi - I had a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. Eventually gave up on the mouse because of the amount of batteries it was using and went back to my USB one. I seem to remember someone recommending to turn the mouse upside down when you weren't using the PC, but I could be wrong.

The ones I got with the mouse were Duracell alkaline so this is why they lasted 3 weeks then. Looks like I will be getting rechargeables in future. This could become very expensive.

Is it worth taking the batteries out of the mouse when not in use to prolong life?

  • The batteries in my Microsoft wireless optical mouse last for months.

It's always a good idea to keep spare batteries or a wired mouse handy, of course

What kind of batteries do you use?

[Looks inside mouse] At the moment I am using Duracells.

Batteries do deteriorate over time even if they're not used. Those supplied with new equipment are probably cheap ones and may well have sat in warehouses for months.

I have had a Microsoft wireless mouse, the batteries lasted for ages, then got my latest PC (an HP) with an HP wireless mouse, and as the OP says, the batteries hardly last anytime at all, I sent changed one mouse in the shop (after lots of arguing with the "customer services" desk) and sent another back to HP.

I am pretty sure that HP must know their mouses are duff.

My old logitech mouse was a pain but now I've got logitech G7 which uses lithium ion batteries that are hot swappable, much better, keeps my mouse in use indefinitely as it comes with a spare battery that you just keep on charge.
