Hey,
I want to do something special for my girlfriends 21st in October during the weekend of the 16th.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Ideally my budget will be up to £500 for the both of us and I'm looking at weekend getaways either at home or abroad for 2 to 3 nights (fri-sun or sat-sun)
Many thanks!

Venice would always be my choice, cheap flights to either marco Polo airport or Treviso (coach into centre from there) and a nice hotel, and just wander around, very romantic! or you could do London, see a show, go to a club, nice meal. Depends whehte ryou want tobe busy busy, or just chill out.0

I totally agree, venice would be amazing and I know she'd LOVE it - i'm just struggling to find flights and suitable accomodation for 2 or 3 nights that is cheap enough! Any suggestions or ideas for travelling fri15th Oct returning sun17th Oct?
London is my second choice and was going to do a nice hotel, show, london eye, madame tussauds etc. etc. but there is just so much choice and again is often coming in at over my £200 per person budget :huh:0 -
Where could you fly from?0

Where do you live? There are other lovely cities in this country apart from London where you could get a good weekend break probably cheaper. What about York or Liverpool even? Or the Lake District. What are the GF's interests?0

We live near Birmingham so prepared to travel to whichever airport is cheapest.

I've considered York too. She loves shopping and sightseeing and shows London would offer. But she also loves history and beautiful landscapes.
I've also considered a nice hotel that would provide a good base to explore Snowdon or the Lake District.0 -
If coming to London you could come by megabus from Birmingham about £16 return for both of you on the dates you want. You could try the Holiday Inn 2 for 1 link for your dates and it works out £210 in total for 2 nights in a delux room at the 4 star Crown Plaza city Hotel. Has good reviews on trip advisor. Walking distance to a lot of attractions. You could try the theatre direct on arrival for theatre tickets on the day. Legally Blonde is good and if went to the theatre at 5pm you can get a lottery ticket, if your name is pulled out you can get two top priced tickets for £25 each.

if you buy your daily travelcard (£5.60 for unlimited travel on buses and tubes off peak in zones 1-2) from the train station (Blackfriars) near the hotel (not a tube station) you can get the BR 2 for 1 offers for attractions. Madam Tussauds is on this and the London Eye. £17.95 for the eye for 2 of you and £28 for MTs for 2 of you. Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace is scheduled for 16th Oct so yopu may want to see that as free. You could also check out 2 for 1 meal offers on the 2 for 1 site and London restuarant deals on the main MSE site.

You have lots of free things you can also do such as visit Covent Garden (walking distance from the City hotel) to see the entertainers. You can do a London tour using your Travel card on buses.

Easyjet has flights to Lisbon for about £100 each return from Liverpool on 15th October
Should still be pretty warm there in October http://www.wordtravels.com/Cities/Portugal/Lisbon/Climate
Lastminute.com have one of their top secret hotels for £90.22 in Lisbon on 15th & 16th.
So flights and hotel for £290 - leaving c£210 for two nights in lisbon.
Just a thought!0 -
Have you considered taking the Eurostar? There are some great hotel bargains to be had in the European quarter of Brussels, as it's dead at the weekends, but you could still visit the Grand Place, Manneken Pis, the chocolate museum etc.
Bruges is actually a much nicer destination from what I remember and the train ticket is valid to anywhere in Belgium.0 -
Venice is a good choice. Lots to keep both of you entertained and very romantic. It's an unforgettable place. Paris would be an obvious choice but another less obvious place might be the highlands of Scotland for romantic walks, or even Ireland to visit the giant's causeway.0
