wireless become unsecured

was using wireless internet fine yesterday morning (I have a Belkin) and was secured, then today tried to get on internet (I have broadband) and said no connection, when I looked there are 3 wireless connections in the area, (one of them used to be mine), there are now still 3 but one of them (which I think is still mine) is unsecured and is just named belkin, how can that happen, and how do I re-secure, I have techno fear so need reply in simple terms please, if anyone can help I'd be really grateful, thanks in advance.

make sure it is yours by turning off your Belkin router...you won't lose the settings

then refresh the wireless networks list

What may of happened is that turning it off it may have been reset the router to factory default where as the configuration would need to be reinputted as that information would need to be resumitted in order to reconnect your adsl line back onto the internet. If you didnt need the configure the router then some one may of hacked your wirless connection and turned the security off. In that case reconfigure your router to not broadcast your SSID (wireless name) input and enable mac address filtering (that is only all pc's that you no about) to connect Also use wpa security instead of wep as wep is easily hacked and do not use a easy password people can quess.....

I would not use an unsecured line as anyone could be using your link (downloading dodgy stuff on your line). If I were you, I would go to http://www.belkin.com and download the configuration guide to reconfigure the security on your router.

There is a guide of the principles involved here:

wire it up using an ethernet cable, and goto 192.168.2.1 in ie for belkin, the passwords are at the bottom of the second link.
