Don't throw them away, at the very least give them to a charity shop and see if they can get a few quid for them.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

Videos are worth very little to a seller but I wish I still had a VCR - the DVD versions of Star Trek are pretty expensive and I am really into Deep Space Nine at the moment."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Recently I managed to pick up some really obscure 70s sci-fi on video for nothing.
Actually i'm just in search of a new VCR on ebay. You can get what were top of the range for next to nothing.0 -
I mostly curl up in bed with a portable player I bought with some birthday money once - it's a bit difficult to do that with a TV and VCR. Also videos take up a lot of room. But that's just making excuses - I have a couple of old Rory Bremner and Have I Got News For You tapes, and a couple of foreign movies (Anna Karenina, a Russian film called Ascension, and a French tape my French teacher managed to get hold of - Emile Zola's Germinal in the original with English subs and Gerard Depardieu playing the lead), but nothing much else. I'd like to see Germinal again some time so I might see if I can find one.
What was your find though? I'll watch most stuff - I love The West Wing (see sig) - but I like Star Trek as the quality of the stories is so good. Never really been into Star Wars though. I go to a sci-fi club once a month, I surprised myself by actually beginning to enjoy what I was watching (I initially only went because a friend took me as a way of introducing me to some more of her friends) but almost consider myself a Trekkie now (or a Trekker as some people prefer)."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Crowqueen, a fellow Trekkie, may I shake you warmly by the hand
In several places online there are photos of me being silly in my 'skant' (TOS -Uhuru uniform). Ever been to a fan convention?
Babylon 5 of any interest?, my last convention was Discworld and I met up with a fellow MSEr there.

As this is turning into a bit of a Sci fi geeks thread. As Soolin knows i;m a huge B5 fan as well as a lot of trek DS9( being the best of the newer ones) and of course I love William Shatners Ham acting.
Lots of 70s and 80s sci fi also (just re watched the tripods Trilogy) My first love though is Books. When I was in my Teens (a while ago:eek:) I used to get through 2 or 3 novels a week. Now a bit slower. Luckily I have managed to turn my wife to my way of thinking and she has now joined me in Geekdom.:D0 -
To get back slightly on topic but still carry on in a sci fi vein have you seen the way that prices on vintage sci fi books has plumetted?
I could always rely on bulk buys of sci fi books (pre 1980s) turning a good profit on Amazon, but I just bought a huge lot and have maybe only listed 15% of them, the rest are worthless as there are too many copies at 1p , even hardbacks over 1kg.The problem is that some of the publishers have managed to put them on the 'kindle' system, so instead of hunting out that rare book and paying £10 for it, they can now download it straight away for around £3-£4, even the ones issued only in the US. No more tatty and tanned sci fi lovingly sought out in junk shops, now a pristine copy on a kindle.
I've started going through some of my other sci fi novels I have listed and I'm going to have to remove them as well.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. That's good news for me as i'm actually in search of some old out of print books. Hopefully i'll get a bargain then.0 -

Soolin, did you ever go to Pages Bar in Pimlico?
Once, years and years ago. My 'group' used to meet in Bermondsey but not for ages now and i always hoped to find another group, I survive now with the occasional fan run convention.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
