Bitter & Twisted says ""one particular landlord's association are either planning to set up precisely this kind of database or have already done so.""
not so.. it is not a landlords association at all... it is a private landlord in weston super mare who has set up landlord referencing.co.uk as a free service for landlords.
Because of all the uproar on here, i am pleased to say that they took on board many of the concerns expressed here, and their regular emails contain almost no information at all now - other than a name - so that NINO and DOBs are no longer circulated to the general membership.
Last week alone they stopped 147 rogue tenants from ripping off more landlords... a good service if you ask me....0 -
Her financial, health and family problems are nothing to do with you - resist the temptation to get involved. You had a brief business relationship with her where she was supposed to pay £x in return for accommodation. She may have breached this but she's out of your life now and it would probably pain her that her fellow church friends are trying to suck in an ex landlady whom she's trying to avoid, back into her private life.0

Except that this rule applies to tenants and the OP has lodgers not tenants.
14 days and it would be in the bin if it were me. Surely if she wanted the stuff she'd have been back for it by now.
The landlordzone is focussed on landlord/tenant relationships but I assumed that the tort cited in this law may apply to other relationships, too.
The legislation itself does not reference landlords or tenants but is broadly about preventing parties from confiscating or selling other parties belongings that they don't own.

I can't remember the specific wording of the Royal Mail act that relates to intercepting other people's mail but essentially it's okay to open up other people's post at your own address so long as you don't intend to do anything fraudulent with it.
That's fine then, I will 'phone the originator of any new bills that arrive and get them stopped at once. Hopefully ex-tenant is bright enough to understand there's not much point in using my address if every service she contracts from here is shut down as soon as the first statement is sent out.
Thank you, everyone who has suggested I keep my distance from ex-lodger and her church. I will be following your advice, with some relief as I really don't need the stress. The chap who 'phoned me has the information he needs to start helping ex-lodger without my being there, as you have all said.
Her stuff can stay where it is until the 90 days has expired, then the one item that could be useful to someone else will be freecycled, and the bin-men can take the rest.0
