Mercers are a nightmare, as are the various arms of Barclays.

We now have the FLA, FOS and ICO taking action against them for us and we are now discharged BR's but they still won't acknowledge the BR!!

Best thing is to ignore them and their threats, they won't stop so it's really not worth getting upset about them - I speak from experience here lol!! x
  • Thanks Doucam and everyone else,

Should I expect a doorstep visit then? They dont have my home phone number, just my mobile.

When they threatened us with a doorstep visit from resolvecall I went totally mental and emailed and rang them and they apologised and didn't send anyone lol!

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, but remember that they don't have any rights so you do not have to let them in.
  • Mercers are a complete nightmare. They realised that talking about door step collections to my wife really upset her and they got some money out of her for a short period. We soon got wise to them, and taking advice from this site stopped paying them. We went on for about 6 months without paying them before we went BR. They always talked about door step visits but no one came round.

In the end we had our home phone on answer phone all the time and used our mobiles.

They are complete muppets at mercers, if you get job satisfaction from making people cry and to scared to answer the door there is something wrong with you.

All the best with your BR in November

I think you can almost certainly guarantee a doorstep vist and without an appointment too. I read above they are supposed to make an appointment, which they never do. I was terrified of leaving the house, and going home for months. Not answering my door or my phone, looking over my shoulder, aware of every car that came up here, and to some degree, its not left me yet, I still don't answer the door if i don't know who it is, Terrified they would identify my car and take it too, every morning i checked to see it was still there, I don't like parking it outside even now, I got so i used to park it somewhere else. Now how paranoid can that make you. I'd consider myself to be quite vulnerable as well, and stupidly, one day when i was at an all time low, one of them came knocking on my front window when i was sat in my front room, quite late at night, and i thought i had no option but to let them in. They reduced me to tears, critised me and my house, and even more stupid i think i was so distraught, i gave them everything they asked, including my NI number. Unfortunately i had'nt found this website, otherwise, i would have been better informed, that no one has the ' right ' to do that to you. Afterwards i was told never give you NI number to anyone, and i'm still upset about it, now. I'm having problems with my NI contributions at the moment, i don't know if its got any relevance. I don't know how this person sleeps at night, knowing what they did to me.How would they feel, if that was a member of their family ?

As for the question elsewhere on this thread - for what sort of person would this be a career choice. Quite an educated person, that drives a ' banger ' , like the rest of us on here. I find it really shocking, as i've just been looking through the debt free board now, recognising one after the other of the DCA's, and realising my debt had been passed ( or sold ) from one to the other, of them. But unfortunately its too late to dwell on that now.

I'm not entirely comfortable about making this post, either, stupid or paraniod as it sounds. In case of what? i'm bankrupt, but?,
The legacy will remain until i'm out of here, at the very least.
But i felt i should comment

And by the way, you'll have to but a new push button for your doorbell. But at least it does'nt work anymore..........................................
