My policy has accidental insurance but this only covers damage caused by me and anyone else named on the policy, not friends/visitors....might be worth checking the small print to see what yours says.

Oh I don't think I stipulated I am a smoker! I am not but my friend is- will that make a difference? x

If you're not listed as a smoker, then generally there will be a clause in there about cigarette damage not being included as your premium is usually higher if you are a smoker.

As you are a non-smoker, I do think it would be common courtesy for your "friend" to pay for the damage that she caused! Had you agreed to allow her to smoke in your house?

I would be fuming if it was me!

    Good luck.

I too am wondering if she offered to contribute to the cost? Smoking in a non smokers house seems rather rude to me tbh.

Have you managed to check the small print in your insurance yet?

Well my friend "offered" to pay but I honestly don't think it was a genuine offer!

I have tried to fix the burn by trying to cut out the black bits and cut a little bit of the back of the sofa and it looks like a patched job but it looks a little better.

Still upset really as my dad bought me these sofas xxx

regardless of wether you think it was "a genuine offer" accept it quickly :D

Say thank you for your offer to repair - the cost is going to be ......

Why is it fair you have to live with a bodge job because of their negligence?
  • You could put a throw on the sofa to cover the damage.
  • Dogsitting?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I don't really know if this is even possible or not, but could your friend not claim on her insurance? I don't really know why you would even consider claiming on your insurance rather than your friend pay, it will be on your records for 5 years.

If it was the other way round you would pay your friend straightaway, your friend has offered, accept this.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
