  • hi ema_o,

I have two switches by my boiler, they both say Water/heater underneath both switches. The one switch i currently have switched on and always had it switched on since i moved in, that switch heats up the water every now and again, basically it tops itself up. The other switch i dont know what it does.

Is one a Standard switch and the other a Heatwise switch? is one of them a booster? The switch i have on at the moment which heats up the water every so-so minutes, should i switch that off and only switch it on if i need hot water?
  • Hey ema_o,

Also when i switch off the water/heater switch when im not using the hot water, how long should i leave the switch on for if i want to use the hot water? how long will it take to heat up? and roughly how long will that hot water last for? (for example if im taking a shower, i dont want the hot water running out halfway through)

    Thanks in advance!

Well, yours sounds a bit different to ours, but what I would suggest.
Take the daytime electric meter reading at a point in time one day, maybe when you leave for work, then take a new reading, with the switch turned on as it is at the moment a few hours later.
Next turn the switch off and leave it off for exactly the same period of time. Take your meter readings again at exactly the same times as the previous day, then you will see if it is this switch which is ramping up your bills!

We had gas fitted, so it is a while since I used it, but from memory I think I used to switch it on an hour before I needed it. Our water heated up overnight even with the immersion off on the E7 anyhow, so it was fine in the morning - it was just if we wanted water in the evening that we used it!

Sounds like you will have to do a bit of playing with it, but hopefully will help you find out what is going on!

Also agree with contacting EON, they were very good when we were trying to get our head around our readings. They told me which reading was on the daytime and which was our E7 tarrif, we actually had 5 different readings so I was very confused at first!
