Paypal protection -not?

I recently paid £350 for an item that has not arrived. I paid for insured delivery and my last meesage from the seller was that he had sent it and it would need to be signed for. He has not replied to any messages regarding the non dilivery. I opened a dispute with ppal and this morning escalated to a claim. The email they sent said I would POSSIBLY be covered for $200 minus a $25 fee. Great, so even if I get anything I am still going to be over £200 down on the deal. Any ideas.

Did you pay using a credit card to fund your purchases? If so you can always claim back from the CC company.

Also, silly question, but are you making the claim through paypal UK as I wondered why you paid in sterling, yet mention dollars when referring to the amount claimable.

If you want to share the auction number with any of us by PM I'm sure that I, or one of the other regulars can take a look and see if there is anything else we can suggest.

  • The paypal funds came directly out of my current account although I do have cc registered.
The paypal site I'm claiming through was the one i was directed through when I first investigated complaining to ebay (uk). The phone contact number through the ppal site is a UK one so I do not know why they talk in $$. Trying to get to talk to an advisor on the phone is frustrating though.

You may have difficulties getting ANY money back on this. Best of luck.

    Look at paypalsucks.com

I'll ask my usual question then..what payment method would you use then that is safer than payal and guaranteed to get your money back if it goes wrong?

Paypal isn't brilliant but at the moment it beats paying by cheque, postal order or bank transfer. It is also safe if you back it with a credit card and make sure you check the details of the auction before you bid.

OP you have a PM in response to my PM

  • Did the auction not qualify for buyer protection?

I've seen the auction and in the absence of the OP can confirm that there was no buyer protection. I also believe, more worryingly, that this was a hijacked account. The seller was mainly a buyer, and had no feedback since january for selling, and since March for buying. Then lists nearly £2500 pounds worth of stuff in one week for which he has received no feedback.

Feedback also suggests that the items sold this time are not the usual items sold by the seller.

Firstly there was a mass boycott recently, but I don't think ebay or paypal noticed.

Buyers must take some responsibility for keeping themselevs safe as well. If these scum were not on ebay they would be in the small ads conning people, or trying to flog dodgy goods in the local pub. We must all take care on ebay, just as we would if we were buying from a stranger elsewhere.

Go into 'buy' and then into advanced search. On th eleft hand margin there is th eoption to search by seller, click on that and insert the selelrs id into the box making sure you tick the 'completed listings' option as well.

From there just choose your seller (it is the first one) and click on 'vew items' and than brings up his recent sales.

I've sent a direct link to the page to you by PM.
