Anyone else get one of the £299 Argos Clearance MSI CR610 laptops?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330473003333&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Just got my daughter's CR610 today - looks nice, haven't done much with it apart from install AVG, but the obvious issue is with the battery. There is a "No battery is detected icon" at the bottom right, and when unplugged the laptop does not work, but there is a battery in place.

Any thoughts on whether the battery is faulty or perhaps just need to change some setting somewhere?

Thanks ... Simon.

PS Won't be able to act on anything until Friday (well not personally, might be able to get my daughter to change something tomorrow night).

PPS My other daaghter likes it and doesn't like the look of the Samsung one - today she has decided black is better than red! Admittedly it is shiny.

  • When the computer problems gets sorted:

If it's the same computer: I would uninstall AVG from the computer and also use this to ensure nothing is left: http://www.avg.com/download-tools

    Then install avira and malwarebytes.
Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus
    Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 - FileHippo.com

AVG is recently (although a sad thing to say), is not very good...

Install AVG?? Are you mad? :rotfl:

Any problems, call Argos Clearance and get them to change it. They have some in stock now, so I guess it will be a good time to do it. You can also call their technicians to see if they have any idea.

Of course you should at least remove the battery and replace it. Also check within the BIOS to see if it is recognised there.

Why no AVG donnie? I installed it and hate it and noticed it slows down everything...

My screen seems to flicker when scrolling up and down on an internet page - i am just wondering if everyone elses is like that also?

    can you elaborate?

Didn't know AVG was not viewed favourably upon any more - I shall look at an alternative thanks eg. Avira. Is Avast considered okay? I have that on my PC.

    Cheers ... Simon.

Press and hold down the Flying Windows key and then press the Pause Break key. Report what is written under Rating, Processor and RAM.

    Rating: 4.1 Windows experience index
    Processer: AMD Athlon(tm) II Dual-Core M300 2.00GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 4.00GB (3.25GB usable)

Just to add it seems to freeze every now and then and a few times it has said something along the lines of 'Internet explorer unable to open page' or 'operation aborted'.

On some pages, just moving hte mouse around causes really bright flashing and jittering.

    Thanks Donnie.
  • Hi Donnie - how would I "check within the BIOS to see if [the battery] is recognised there"?
  • just rung up D&J Henry Ltd, they have had a problem with batteries for the CR610 so will replace it - first of all DHL have to return this one to them before they can send out a replacement so will take best part of a week.

(PS My daughter also said something about a problem with the space bar - but I'll have to get her to explain when she gets home)

Return it immediately for a refund or replacement. Don't accept a faulty machine.
